Kokoro no Tomodachi (koˈkoɾu no toˈmodoʤi)

Kokoro no Tomodachi is a lighthouse located on the islet of Hōyoku, and is the westernmost lighthouse in the Ring of Light. It is also known as the library lighthouse, due to the dedication of Shirujin, the lighthouse's kami, to the idea that knowledge is the most powerful way to ensure the safety of those who travel the Great Ring. To this end, the priests of the Kokoro no Tomodachi collect, collate, and disseminate information that travelers may find useful. Among other things, they create copies of maps (many of which were originally drafted by Tyrdur the Lost), and also create guidebooks such as The Herbalist's Guide to the Great Ring. They are associated to the Gwāsa in the city of Eien, which keeps copies of all the information they gather. Over the centuries, the priests of the Kokoro no Tomodachi have gathered more secrets of the Great Ring and the lands beyond than any other group.

Shirujin, the Kami of the Kokoro no Tomodachi, manifests as one of the Kitsunejin, often appearing to be no more than one of the priests of the lighthouse, albeit one with nine tails. Like many gods of lighthouses, he is deeply interested in ensuring the safety of travelers. When he does appear, it is most often to give a piece of cryptic advice to someone in the midst of a journey, advice which almost always turns out to be essential their their safe return home.
