Sgurr Biorach (skʉr bʲɪˈɾˠɑx)

Sgurr Biorach is the highest mountain on the island of Eilean Skìth, and the highest point in the entire Eileanan an Iar island group. It is named for its sharp peak, and it is a part of the Fiacla mac Tíre range that runs down the spine of Eilean Skìth. While most of the range is heavily forested, Sgurr Biorach is bare black rock for the upper fifteen hundred feet, and it is sometimes known as the Black Fang.

The mountain is extremely difficult to climb, and there are none who claim to have reached the summit. According to legends, if you could reach the peak, there is a route from there into a mysterious kingdom in the sky inhabited by giants and filled with great treasures; several of the folktales from the region describe journeys into the cloud kingdoms that begin with an ascent up Sgurr Biorach.

Notable Spirits

As with the rest of the range, Sgurr Biorach is ruled by Sean Mac Tíre, the Old Wolf. Those who wish to travel through the Fiacla mac Tíre must pay tribute in the form of a large animal, or the wolf will take its payment from their flesh himself. Sean Mac Tíre is said to have a pack of spirit wolves at his command, and will use them to enforce his dominion over the mountains. If you know the proper places and rituals, you can make a pact with Sean Mac Tíre. Those who do so will be given a belt of wolfskin that will allow them to take the form of a wolf for as long as they hold the god's favor. Staying in Sean Mac Tíre's good graces requires regular sacrifice of meat, typically deer or sheep.
