The Silence

"In all The Dream, there is nothing like the Silence. It is the graveyard of worlds." - Kailo Moana, speaking to the leaders of the O le Feagaiga.

In the depths of The Dream, there is a region that the Kitsunejin and other dreamwalkers call 'Chimugaa Mu', or 'The Silence'. This is a vast area of The Dream that is virtually empty. It corresponds to universes that are devoid of thinking beings, but still have some sort of presence in The Dream - like a faded Eidolon, but for whole universes. At first glance, the Silence seems to be static and unchanging, where all the silent worlds have always been silent. It wasn't until the records kept in regions of disassociated time were consulted that it was discovered that the Silence was growing. Somehow, new worlds would suddenly be silent - and would have always been silent, as far as anyone could remember or prove. Only those people and records outside the flow of time (such as being on the island of Buyan during its absences) would retain any recollection of it ever having been a thinking world.

This region is an unsettling mystery to those who are familiar with The Dream. No-one knows what causes universes to suddenly cease to have been active parts of The Dream, or why it changes the entire timestream both forward and back. A few have endeavoured to traverse the Silence, but the worlds beyond it are filled with thoughts and patterns so alien that it challenges the sanity of those who approach. It is unknown if the worlds at the far side are also going silent, although the Gwāsa in Eien has been attempting to document the far reaches and store those documents on Buyan to compare when possible.

The Silence is far from the world of the Million Islands today. But the growth of this expanse worries those who know of it. The O le Feagaiga pact has taken up the mission to investigate this mystery and defend the world from being silenced, and their agents and allies are constantly pursuing this end.
