Hana's Emergency Vulnerarium

The Vulnerarium is a squat building located in the heart of the Rainyard where urgent medical issues can be seen to. The furnishings are simple and hodge-podge, as much of their equipment is donations or purchased separately. Immediately upon entering the Vulnerarium one is confronted with the triage receptionist, who direct the patient to the appropriate ward, be it the the curse ward, apothecary or the trauma ward.   Established by Hana Hobbledehoy in 255 IE, the Vulnerarium brands itself as a more prompt alternative to treatment at the Temple, particularly for cases that are beyond a simple healer's repertoire. There's nothing the Vulnerarium enjoys more than a challenge.

Critical conditions handled

Curses

The curse ward is the branch of the ER that handles all manner of magical maladies, including petrification, hexes, and bona fide curses. It is full of lucky trinkets to counteract the dark energies brought in, and their medical cabinet contains many decidedly non-healery tools that are useful in curing this or that curse. Chickens wander the curse ward, providing fresh eggs for absorbing certain light curses.   Identification by a cursebreaker is the first step for a suffering soul. This stage might indicate that the curse in question is easily cured. For example, a patient who exhibits general bad luck might be diagnosed with a case of evil eye and prescribed some minutes of egg-holding.   Next, patients usually undergo cleansing. Bathing, incense, and moonbathing are commonly used methods of cleansing. This process serves to lighten the severity of the curse, and is often enough to entirely remove the curse.   Patients whose curses are more esoteric or severe are then carefully examined and treated according to strict gnometific methods.

Trauma

The trauma ward is where patients with physical injuries are treated. Although the ER has some magical healers on staff, it is generally preferred to use either surgery or topical healing creams for less severe cases because magic healing is both much scarcer and could potentially save lives where more mundane methods could not.   Cases where all the body parts are relatively intact and attached to the person are often directed towards the in-house alchemist to purchase the topical healing creams that are mixed and sold on-site. Topical healing creams are often cheaper than healing potions for smaller injuries, and the ER can drive costs further down by ranching its own slimes. Of course, there is the risk that comes with the use of experimental treatments, and for those who prefer it, normal healing potions are also available.

That's an excellent and funny article with so many fun bits and bobs. :D I love the idea of the curse-chickens, and that you can be prescribed to hold some good-luck eggs for a bit!   Great bit of detail in the staff too, and the formatting with the siluettes like that is really effective :D Awesome stuff!

Thank you! I was really happy with how the silhouettes fit in! I hope it'll still look good if I ever get around to drawing them.

Eggs to absorb curses is really a great idea! I love "egg-holding" treatment XD And that "gnometific methods" sound fun too!   Great article :D

Thank you! The egg method is an actual way people have tried to treat curses, especially the evil eye, in real life. Gnometific methods made me chuckle when I wrote it :D
