Session 73 - Rubicon
General Summary
The Party continued to explore the Collective’s massive ship. They headed ever inwards towards the center of the mile-cubed vessel.
Ahead, S’thom saw a large center of flashing screens and buttons, similar to the ones they found in Kaverna Proklet. She heard voices somewhere near the equipment and warned her friends to be alert. Unfortunately, she didn’t see the Collective cyborgs activate all around her.
The Party jumped to S’thom’s defense. She, Gorgoroth and Ifrit held off the Collective cyborgs while Lat’num and Red inspected the displays and panels. The facility was a communication hub for the entire floor. Gorgoroth heard fighting on the other side of the hub. He found a firbolg warrior protecting a werepanther ally who struggled to figure out how to use the complex controls.
A ghost floated around the corner and used hand signals to teach Red how to operate the machinery. They needed four operators working simultaneously to gain control of the cyborgs. It took the ghost and Lat’num working together to train the Party but they soon got the correct commands locked in.
Once out of combat, the two parties met and swapped stories. The other group was not from Sigil and knew nothing about the wormbots. They were citizens of Arborea, the chaotic good plane that bordered the Beastlands and Ysgard. Refugees from both neighboring planes had recently sought asylum in Arborea. The adventurers sought answers and eventually ended up in Limbo where they found the Rubicon. Kellion, the ghostly spirit of a deva, explained what he knew of the astral ship.
In eons past, Primus sent a group of modrons to tame the chaos of Limbo with a magial device dubbed the Spawning Stone. The Stone had something to do with the spawning of the first slaad, but it was also used by the modrons and githzerai to create a flying fortress called the Rubicon. The modrons sacrificed their bodies to create the craft and the gith linked their psionic powers together to crew and pilot it.
Kellion’s group didn’t want to advance. They set up camp while the Party searched the floor. In a supply room Ifrit picked up a Ring of Protection and a Wand of Cure Light Wounds, while S’thom pocketed a handful of coins.
They next investigated a prison camp. Githyanki ready to fight, githzeria ready to join the Collective, other gith without hope were the most numbered occupants. A gnome merchant, an air genasi trapper, an orc paladin of Gruumsh and…. someone else. Someone who made people uncomfortable; even the orc. Someone invisible.
S’thom used the magic lantern to cast True Seeing. The invisible monster was a demodand, a fiend whose happiness came from torturing the other prisoners.
