The Old World is overrun by magic. Nothing is real anymore. Nothing can be assumed to be what it appears to be. Warfare has escalated to a point where mere mortal beings cannot stand a chance, as powerful wizards would rain down destructive spells on simple foot soldiers. Leaders in high places were controlled by powerful charm spells.   In desperation, Common folk, Powerful Leaders and  Masters of Magic alike boarded ships that took off north-westbound, to the continent of The New World, to escape the times. They sought to build a new world where people could be people and live a natural life, controlled by the earth, nature and the Gods. A simpler life.   Magic items, spells and spellcasters are frowned upon, even outlawed in some regions, especially in the Capital on the Coast, Telisia, where the first settlers arrived and strictly banned the use of magic. Spells related to religion is mostly seen as acceptable, as the power is granted by higher authority, for example to heal the sick. Clerics are the most commonly accepted user of spells and magic.   The use of magic, and magic items, can still be found in the New World, as powerful wizards - that wanted a new world to rule themselves without the constant challenge from rivals - also travelled west, and was among the first to arrive here from the Old World. And the ships are still arriving...   The exodus started several generations ago, and normal life has settled in around the seafaring routes. Further inland is largely unexplored by New World settlers. But there’s definitely more to find, and settlers from the Old World were not the first ones to walk these lands and call it home...   Welcome to the New World. It’s yours. For now.
