Draft Horse

Horses are not native to the Nordhavyn Isles. All of them were brought over during The Great Exodus. As those who left the old world never returned, no one could inform them of the need for livestock! Fortunately for everyone, a few farmers would not be parted from their beasts and paid a hefty toll to bring several pairs of draft horses of good stock among other animals. Most survived the trip and quickly adapted to the new land. The farmers though faired 100 times better. They no longer needed to actually use their animals to farm and till. Since they had an instant monopoly on horses, cows, pigs and sheep, they quickly and solely relied on animal husbandry for their livelihood.   No one knows where this tale came from, but it is said that the captain of the ship carrying these beasts slowly started losing his mind. He was often found on board going between decks talking with the horses. In fact, upon reaching Aberreach, he offered to pay quite handsomely for several of the animals, but the farmers refused. He became so distraught that he vowed to return over the sea in order to return with even more horses. Most of the crew would not return with him though fearing the untold dread on their home shore. The ship set sail without them and was one of the few known to have left on a return trip. No one ever heard of them again.   Draft horses are large, stocky and the strongest of the horse breeds. They are able to pull not only the plow but large wagons and other vehicles. Originally located in the March Realm, these beasts are now found everywhere and are suited for any of the climates except that of the Desert Kings. The only horses found there are riding horses used by the kings.
