Norse
Norse (or Common Norse) is the standard language spoken in the Northern Kingdom. There are many dialects of Norse spoken in the Kingdom, not all mutually intelligible with Norse, but most Norsemenn will speak Common Norse.
Writing System
One of the common misconception I have encountered during my travels was the idea that Norsemenn write and read Futhark. This is not the case at all. Amongst the literate population, Norsemenn able to read and write Futhark are in the minority. Similarly to abroad, it is an alphabet for scholars, artists and more specific to the Northen Kingdom, seidrmenn.
Nowadays, the most common alphabet is the Latin one, that has gradually been replacing Futhark as the main alphabet of use in the Northern Kingdom.
Geographical Distribution
Spoken in the North of the known world as a native language, it is also a very popular, sometimes indispensable, language in the countries surrounding the Northern Kingdom thanks to millennia and centuries of shared history, either via trade, war and raids.
In the more distant countries I have travelled to, people were unsurprisingly few to speak it, although it was a rather common choice of language for men of letters, magicians and artists, which I attribute to the fact that my birth nation is the oldest one to this day, with an extensive written history.

Author's Notes
Norse (obviously) is based on Old Norse. There are differences between the two languages though, to be honest, mostly simplifications. If you have questions about grammar, don't hesitate to ask them here (I might not have an answer yet though).
