Grudain was one of the ranking officers in the speculation fleet bound for Ralcondray in 1980 Vol. After the fleet captain died in the epidemic that swept through the crews, Grudain self-promoted to captain and took charge of the survivors. Accomplishments & Achievements
Grudain was a subcaptain, in charge of one of the fleet's freight carriers. Because her boat had a small crew and less contact with the flagship, the disease struck with less severity, and she was the highest-ranking officer to survive. She made the decision to press on with the voyage instead of turning back, because the fleet's log showed them to be much closer to Ralcondray than the Cluster Islands. The remaining crew nearly mutinied, but Vitat convinced them to cooperate.
After reaching Ralcondray, Grudain ordered the the ships dismantled and rebuilt into permanent shelters, again proceeding only with Vitat's help in rallying the demoralized survivors. By the time the construction was finished, she had won their support. Grudain was elected captain twice more, holding the position for fifteen years until failing health forced her to retire.
