Miridaswi healer
Career
Qualifications
While not a requirement, healing in Miridaswi has long been the job of choice for people with "oddities" that tend to isolate them socially.
Career Progression
An apprenticeship in the healing house usually begins in the mid to late teens. Apprentices do not deal directly with patients, instead beginning with academic training. They study drawings, sculpt anatomy, learn medical recipes, and read the extensive health records. Once in their twenties, they learn treatments by assisting the healer at work. There is no set timeframe for when an apprentice becomes healer. Healers tend to have shortened lives, and often an apprentice is promoted because their master dies or becomes too ill to perform their duties. On occasion there have been two practicing healers, though only one may have residence at the healing house. There may also be two apprentices simultaneously.
Payment & Reimbursement
Miridaswi supports its healers by tithe. What the healer does not need, they distribute to those who do.
Perception
Social Status
The healer is automatically one of the Tradition Keepers, and therefore has a significant amount of influence in community affairs.
Operations
Workplace
The healing house is the largest dwelling in Miridaswi. It resembles the standard construction of two houses joined by a social room, but one of the houses is instead a dormitory for those whose conditions require supervision.
Provided Services
In addition to serving the health of the community, the healers also keeps records known as lifelines. Each is a timeline of an individual, from birth to death, with notes about injuries or sickness. These records help in managing outbreaks.
Dangers & Hazards
Working in proximity with sick people exposes healers to the risk of getting sick themselves. For this reason they are not permitted to raise children in the healing house.
