Belick's Hole

"A crack in the mountain is our salvation" - Goval VI after the Havenor's first hurricane

Geography

Midway up Mount Shard just above the tree line a small crack in the mountain, leads to a short tunnel that opens up into a large natural cavern.

Localized Phenomena

Powerful storms are more common in this area of the world. Those who study such things cannot explain why. Very sensative wielders of magic have declared that the region has a faint, but pervasive, feel of magical forces.

Climate

Sub-tropic Mountain

Fauna & Flora

The southeast corner has a large cultivated mushroom patch

Natural Resources

The northern edge of the cavern was being worked on to level out the ground of Haven's natural storm shelter. Iron ore was discovered and a mine has been established with alternative entrance hold on northern face of the mountain. The mine has also discovered veins of copper and silver

History

When the Pheonix shipwrecked the survivors had rough going. The ship was scavanged to make their first crude shelters. These were constantly being repaired as the started to fell trees for sturdier shelter. A young sailor named Belick volunteered to go on a scout of the island. During this scouting venture he traveled the entire island. He stayed, for the most part, below the treeline but following deer tracks and discovered the small crack the tracks led to. He lit a pine torch and followed inside to discover the large natural cavern, and the doe that was sheltering there.    When he returned he reported all that he saw and observed the cavern could be a shelter if they needed it. Given it's location so far from the coast it was discounted since rescue was expected at some point. A month later a massive hurricane came in from the east. Findal's Bell gave warning so that everyone and all their supplies were gathered and transported up the mountain and they sheltered in the cavern, dubbed Belick's Hole. Countless times Havenors have had to shelter in the hole

The history is what really intrigues me. But without reading other articles I'm left with questions.

I think reading other articles would answer many of them. Also I'd love to see more about the flora and fauna of this location.
