Spellgale Cloth

Magic flows through the world just as the wind, with currents changing frequently, flowing up and over itself and pulling imagination and wonderment with it. The Orika recognise this ancient force, as fundamental to nature as any other law. To them, these magical eddies are as navigable as the breeze is to a kite: a hard talent to master, but a bountiful ability once learnt. The Orika follow the old tales of their Progenitor, the Navigator, holding his teachings to heart as they set sail across the Planet and Layman's Belt. But how does one sail a canoe through the skies? By filling ones sail with magic, of course.   The Orika hold tight to the secret of Spellgale Cloth, not allowing the creation ritual to leave their tightly knit Septs, and so very little is known as to how this material comes to be. However, all it takes is a look skyward to see its ability. Spellgale Cloth has the incredible ability to "power" the Orika canoes by catching the magical currents that flow silently through the world. These sails are then pushed forward as though holding on to an unseen wind, pulling forth the canoe and its passengers. The Orika use this method to propel their vessels through the sky, leaving the ground far behind. Spellgale Cloth was actually the first system of flight discovered on the Planet, documented to have existed long before the first Sky Chariots were dug up from the underground, though the jealously guarded secret of its creation has stopped this technology from spreading to anywhere else.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Spellgale Cloth looks a lot like regular cloth, save for its pale blue tint and the beautiful, sprawling designs painted across the sails that it is made from. Other than these differences, it seems physically to resemble cloth in every aspect.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Spellgale Cloth is able to catch the magical currents that flow through the world, being propelled by it to allow the Orika canoes to take off into the skies on a whim.

Origin & Source

The origin is unknown for Spellgale Cloth, as the secret is closely guarded within Orika Septs. All that is known is that the method for creating such a material is passed down through generations, and it is believed that the method was first devised by the Progenitor God of the Orika, the Navigator.

History & Usage

Discovery

A secret passed down through the many generations of Orika, the discovery of Spellgale Cloth remains a mystery to most.

Everyday use

Spellgale Cloth is used to create the tall sails that sit upon the Orika canoes, allowing the propulsion of these vessels through the skies.

Distribution

Trade & Market

The Orika hold the secret of Spellgale Cloth exclusively within their kinbands, meaning that trade is restricted. Though Eligni and Elves both have made extensive offers to acquire the secrets of the textile, even Orika that leave their kinbands never share their ancestral treasure.

Thank you so much! Whilst the secret of the Spellgale Cloth hasn't been told outside of Orika communities, many Eligni have designed blueprints for Sailboards, though none have had the chance to access the material and try it out

A very cool material, which generates a nice picture in my had :)   Since the sky chariots appear in the text, I wonder if anyone ever tried to use one to attack a Orika canoes?
