Merrix d'Cannith
The current leader of Cannith South, and prospective baron of House Cannith, Merrix is considered a brilliant inventor with a scattered mind and too many ideas for one lifetime.
As one of three potential Cannith leads, he holds a strong rivalry with Jorlanna and Zorlan of Cannith West and East respectively, considering them both financiers and administrators without the artifice and innovator's skill needed to run the House. He holds the weakest claim to the leadership by blood, however - he was barely related to the old patriarch. However, his grandfather of the same name, the elder Merrix d'Cannith, is famous for his creation of the modern sentient warforged, and Merrix is viewed as carrying on his legacy.
Merrix's main interests are in research, and development, particularly on the warforged. He also frequently sponsors expeditions into the Mournland to recover Cannith equipment and designs lost in the Day of Mourning, focusing on their old strongholds of Whitehearth, Eston, and Making.
He has a strong history of extending rights to constructs, treating the Warforged of Cannith South as full employees long before the Treaty of Thronehold offered them freedom and status. One of the richest men on Khorvaire after Cannith's arms sales during the War, he is also known for his philanthropy in improving living conditions in Sharn.
The rumours of his darker side have spread for years, however. He's been accused of working with illicit mercanaries and organized crime to further his projects, of running (entirely unproven) secret creation forges building warforged below Sharn, and of approaching politics with the same cold logic as he approaches artifice.
