Forebears

Home
The Forebears inhabit the deep regions of the Aboloan Forest, where their worship of Enic, the Hunter Lord, has shaped their lives. Blessed with the power of a bear, they live in harmony with the natural world, tending to the land and nurturing the Growth, a manifestation of nature itself. Their settlements are built to integrate seamlessly into the forest, reflecting their deep commitment to environmental preservation.
Ethnicity
Descended from Nods, the Forebears were transformed by Enic's blessing, becoming humanoid bears with upright bodies and opposable thumbs. They are strong, resilient, and deeply connected to the natural world, both physically and spiritually. Their culture is insular, focusing on the protection and expansion of the forest, which they see as a sacred duty passed down by their ancestors.
Religion
The Forebears’ spiritual practices are centered around the worship of Enic, the Hunter Lord, and their deep connection to the Growth. They believe that nature itself is imbued with spiritual power, and their lives revolve around honoring and protecting it. Their dendrophilic lifestyle binds them to the spirits within the forest, similar to animistic religions that worship natural entities and forces. Rituals and ceremonies often take place at significant sites, such as the burial mound of Abolan, the creator of the Growth.
Intelligence
The Forebears have developed a deep knowledge of botany and ecological management, blending traditional wisdom with magical techniques to care for the Growth. Their understanding of nature is highly advanced, allowing them to cultivate and expand the forest while maintaining harmony with their environment. Their insular nature and spiritual focus also give them a unique perspective on the balance between life and death in the natural world.
Appearance
The Forebears resemble humanoid bears, with upright postures, powerful physiques, and opposable thumbs. Their bodies are covered in fur, and they possess the strength and resilience of the bears they were blessed to emulate. Their appearance reflects their connection to Enic and their role as protectors of the forest, embodying the primal power of nature.
Tradition
The customs of the Forebears revolve around the preservation of the forest and the protection of the Growth. They have a pact to avoid killing any protected creatures within the forest, though humanoids are not included in this agreement and are sometimes seen as a source of meat during conflicts or when outsiders venture too far into their territory. This controversial pact was developed during a time of famine and turmoil, and it remains a point of contention within the Enclave. Their legends and myths venerate Abolan, the creator of the Growth, and guide their everyday practices.
