Dr. Bartholomew Turk

A male gnome, Turk was a professor at Morgrave University, where he established the Phaeros Foundation. He now leads the Foundation under the umbrella of the Aurum in Sharn, BR.

History

Before the War

Sometime before the Last War, Bartholomew Turk entered Morgrave University and earned a doctorate degree before signing on as a professor at the same university. During that time, Turk wrote a dissertation that claimed that a secret organization known as the Shadow had influenced Thrane to invade Aundair, capture the capital of Thaliost, and hold it because of the existence of a relic known as the Dragonshard Skull. Morgrave University threw out this dissertation and forced Turk to author another one in order to earn his doctorate. An unknown time later, this dissertation was acquired by Lady Vivienne Marquette.

During the War

During the Last War, Turk worked with Breland as a Field Researcher whose job was to find and claim culturally significant and relevant sites. What this meant was that Turk was meant to discover dragonshard-rich locations and secure them for Breland. However, Turk was more interested in the historic significance of these places and how their absence from historical study pointed towards massive cover ups throughout Khorvaire.
At some point during the war, Turk's research party was teamed up with a convoy leader, Major Lee Hackett on a mission in Q'Barra. The two found an ancient religious site still protected and inhabited by native Lizardfolk. Breland ordered the killing of all inhabitants to secure the site rich in dragonshards. Together, Turk and Hackett refused and protected the site. Hackett was discharged and Turk was sent back to Morgrave University in disgrace.

After the War

Sometime later, Turk created the Phaeros Foundation and traveled to Korranberg, ZI to defend the Foundation to the illustrious newspaper, the Korranberg Chronicle. On his way back to Sharn, he met and hired Yelena Nikto, Rasp, Vax the Valorous, Balarath, and Marcella.

Campaign

Session 6: Moonlight on the Vine

While the rest of the Foundation was fighting for their lives from Operatives V and IV, Turk realized he was the only one who could get the Lightning Rail moving. Using the shock gauntlets that Marcella gave him, Turk powered the Red Liner, revealing that he possesses a dragonmark on his right shoulder.

Session 7: Marked

Turk explained to Marcella that his family works as information brokers for House Sivis. As a dragonmarked member, he was once an information broker for his family, but decided that he didn't want to do that type of work. The mark allows members of House Sivis to track him if he uses it, so he hasn't felt safe enough to use it for some time. He warns the Foundation that they may come looking for him as he was once very good at his job.

Session 10: The True Flame

While planning the Foundation's next steps, Turk revealed that his dragonmark allows him to communicate to people he has met over large distances. Using the mark, he cast sending and spoke to Brother Essex, telling him to meet the rest of the foundation in Thaliost.

Session 13: Paintings, Poisons, and Private Parties

Yelena came to Turk to discuss his knowledge of her true identity and what his advice with communicating with her siblings would be. Turk told Yelena that in order to avoid a forceful or violent return to his family business, he had started working as an information broker again. In doing so, he could intercept and stop communication about her family if they came up.

Description

Appearance

Turk is a male gnome standing 3' 8" tall. He has dirty blonde hair and wears round spectacles. Generally, he can be seen wearing a worn vest, dress shirt, and slacks and nearly always has at least one large book in tow.

Personality

Turk is generally nebbish, and is a researcher first, observer second, and fighter almost never. During times of distress, Turk can often be found focusing on his notes and research instead and is easily lost in those pursuits. He doesn't sleep well and tends to pass this off as a means to continue his research.
