Sharn

Sharn is the most populous city in all of Khorvaire, and arguably all of Eberron. The city literally towers atop several cliffs above the mouth of the Dagger River in southern Breland.

Cityscape

Sharn is a vertical city. It is divided up into five distinct plateaus, as well as a district built into the sides of the cliff near the Dagger River. The five plateaus are known as Central Plateau, Menthis Plateau, Northedge, Dura, and Tavick's Landing. Cliffside is a neighborhood perched on the side of the cliff and a small spit of land below. While each plateau divides the city into districts, the city is also stratified vertically and divided into several sections. The lowest wards of the city are called The Cogs, and if you were to walk to the heights of Sharn you would pass through The Depths, the Lower City, Middle City, Upper City, and then finally you would need to find some method of travel to the highest section of Sharn, which is Skyway. Generally, the higher you are in Sharn, the wealthier the citizens are.

City Transportation

The main forms of public transportation are by electric, hanging gondolas and elevators. Gondolas connect the districts to one another, the small metal carts crossing the canyons between plateaus via wire. Going between different levels requires either traversing stairways between the levels, or one of the few elevators located through the city. House Orien owns and operates the gondolas and elevators. Gondola rides cost a single crown per person, while an elevator costs half a crown per person.

Central Plateau

The Central Plateau is generally made up of administrative and governmental towers and offices and can be easily compared to Washington D.C. The architecture is brutalistic: filled with plain, square stone and metal towers, it's a place that values function over form. Below are the important or interesting places divided by district:

Menthis Plateau

The Menthis Plateau is most famous for Morgrave University, widely considered one of the best schools of higher learning throughout Eberron. The Upper and Middle districts are well-tended to and boast tree-lined avenues and beautiful brick and stone towers and residences for both students and faculty and staff of the University. The lower district has long been written off by those above and includes entertainment, bars, and the residences of the poorer students and staff of the school. Tavick's Landing

Tavick's Landing is for the most part entirely dedicated to leisure. The upper district is made up of lavish apartments and upscale shopping as well as offices for the elite. The middle district is reserved for entertainment, bars, and nightlife for those who can afford to go out on the town but down want to feel unsafe. The lower district is almost entirely residential and is on the nicer side of the less-expensive housing throughout the city and is currently on a come-back from being kind of trashy (a-la Brooklyn). Dura Plateau

Dura is the primary housing and shopping center of Sharn. Dura is an everyman's sector where the bulk of those working in Sharn but not rich spend their money and their time outside of work. Middle Dura houses Karkar Bazaar, a massive shopping area that spans the entire district like a Japanese shopping district. Below are important or interesting places divided by district:

Northedge

Built directly into the cliffs closest to the Hilt and to a small spit of land at the water's level, the Cliffside district is made up of the city's docks, shipping offices, and warehouses. A few dive bars and slums also make their home there. Below are important or interesting places:

Skyway

Hovering above even the tallest towers of the Central Plateau is the floating district of Skyway. Here, the uber-rich build lavish chateaus and mansions and the finest restaurants set up shop. Below are important or interesting places:
