Yakshas
Yakshas are the name given to all creatures that are considered supernatural, mythological or otherwise "not real" by most people. The word is from Sanskrit, often used in Buddhist and Hindu texts to refer to non-human male spiritual beings.
MAGE began using "yaksha" during the British occupation of India, which has led to periodic discussions about finding a more culturally neutral word, rather than continuing to appropriate the Buddhist phrase. However, the term has been used as an umbrella term, similar to "animal" or "plant," and there is no worldwide language to draw upon for an alternative.
