To be a great thief, it is not enough to have a sharp blade, sturdy lock-picks, a good set of leathers, and a lust for gold. One must also have a sharp mind, sturdy resolve, a good set of eyes, and a lust for gold.
That last part isn't negotiable.
Lucien Artene (aka The Rogue) is the greatest thief to have ever lived. He has stolen the treasuries of entire kingdoms, burgled relics from long forgotten vaults, swindled dragons out of their hoards, and some say even stolen death itself. No one is really sure what that last thing means, but it's provocative and it gets the people going.
Artene is regarded not only as the greatest and most prolific thief to have ever lived, but also one of the richest men on the face of the planet. Despite his near infinite wealth, Lucien Artene still sells his incomparable legerdemain to those who want what someone else has. His thirst for gold is, after all, second to his hunger for adventure. If this occasionally lumps him in with a group of "good guys", so be it. They usually have choice things to steal…
He is also responsible for the creation of the most prolific and capable criminal organization on the planet: The Artene Syndicate.
Artene's current whereabouts are unknown. After the founding of his Syndicate, it is believed that the thief retired in secret.
