Village of Erdaer
No one knows why anyone bothered to establish a settlement directly between the horrors of Lhing Pass and the Void (probably not a great choice even before the Opening of the Void), but the Vanir and others who dwell there are fighters because they have to be. While there isn't a tentacled spider the size of a castle wrapping up villagers for dinner every day, it's rather more frequent than is tolerable for most, and far from the only horror on the prowl.
Demographics
Erdaer has an incredibly diverse mix of inhabitants, mostly adults, mostly male, almost all fighters. What you have in Erdaer, you bring with you, so if anyone here is poor or wealthy, it's because they came here that way (not that wealth matters at the end of the world, short of what sort of armor it can buy you).
Government
There is no government to speak of in Erdaer, disputes are usually settled with fights.
Defences
Hidden in the forest with rough wooden palisades, the defenses here are mostly the sorts with swords and axes.
Industry & Trade
The residents of Erdaer act as a defensive shield for the settlements further south, and parlay that into the exchange of supplies.
History
This village started as a small encampment in the north for travelers across the Valley of Ladrengil. As the things coming from the north increased in number in the centuries following the disaster at the Void, it became a destination for both hardened warriors looking to prove their mettle, shiny do gooders who want to be heroes, and those with shadowy pasts looking to leave their previous lives behind.
Points of interest
Sitting between The Gaw, with its slimy monsters, and Lhing Pass, with its giant spiders and shapeshifting horrors, Erdaer itself doesn't have many notable features of its own.
Architecture
Solid pine walls are insulated with thick moss. Construction is completely utilitarian, with little to no thought for aesthetics.
Geography
Sitting at the base of tall green moutains amongst tall pines, the trees peter out toward the northern edge of the village. Nothing grows between the treeline and the shifting black violet light of the Void to the north. The mists hang forever thick here, glowing with Void light and the green lights in the sky. Sometimes there will be enough of a break in the fog for the treasure box of stars above to be seen before it closes in again.
Climate
Vanaheim's climate is cool but comfortable in the southern reaches, with spring and fall in the low 60s, summers in the high 70s, and winters only down into the 50s. North of Lhing Pass, spring and fall average in the 40s, with summers only into the low 60s, and winters well below freezing.
Erdaer, being on the northeastern edge of the kingdom, sees spring and fall temperatures in the high below freezing at night, just above during the day, up into the 50s in the summer, and deeply frozen all winter.
