Dragon

True dragons are winged reptiles of ancient lineage and fearsome power. They are known and feared for their predatory cunning and greed, with the oldest dragons accounted as some of the most powerful creatures in the world. Dragons are also magical creatures whose innate power fuels their dreaded breath weapons and other preternatural abilities.
Many creatures, including wyverns and dragon turtles, have draconic blood. However, true dragons fall into the two broad categories of chromatic and metallic dragons.
Though their goals and ideals vary tremendously, all true dragons covet wealth, hoarding mounds of coins and gathering gems, jewels, and magic items. Dragons with large hoards are loath to leave them for long, venturing out of their lairs only to patrol or feed.
True dragons pass through four distinct stages of life, from lowly wyrmlings to ancient dragons, which can live for over a thousand years. In that time, their might can become unrivaled and their hoards can grow beyond price.

Dragons are innately magical creatures that can master a few spells as they age, using this variant. Each spell can be cast once per day, requiring no material components.
The Dragons were created by the gods of old as weapons in their ceaseless war with Demons.  These first dragons were metallic in color.  After the gods left the earth, Archaria destroyed many of the dragons of the west and the events of the Path of Wrath in 2020 saw the near extinction of most dragons, those who remained changed, becoming the first chromatic dragons.

Civilization and Culture

History

Long ago, the Gods of the Heavens warred with the Demonic entities of the many layers of The Abyss.  Although the Gods had great hosts of angels, like most celestials, angels cannot reproduce in the conventional manner.  As the ceaseless war continued from decades, to centuries, to millenia, the endless hordes of demons who spawn in the pits of the The Abyss began to wear down the legions of angels.  The Gods in their wisdom banded together to create mortal weapons.  These weapons were the first dragons.  They were formed and molded to be the perfect beings, strong of body, mind, and magic.  Although mortal, they could live for hundreds of years, growing in might all through their lifetime.
It is said that the Gods of law and goodness created the Metallic Dragons, with a sense of virtue and a desire to protect other mortal creatures. The other Gods, who were more concerned with their war with the Demon Lords than with mortal lives created the Chromatic dragons.
