Chapter 21: Queen of the Southern Wastes
General Summary
Without allies, Samantha would accomplish nothing within a city as vast as this. With that in mind, she set out to the only friend's location she knew, the imprisoned Queen. Asking a jail guard for the location of her cell proved to be simple enough, and with a little ingenuity, she would make her way into her cell.
Queen was tasked with investigating civilian matters, though quickly found herself in trouble, viewed as a Cortaire knight infiltrating the city, by the name of Queen especially, during a time an assassin bearing the same title would appear near the city limits. Her imprisonment seemed to be an expected outcome, as Arriadne would work her way up the royal ladder to gain trust and permissions within the kingdom.
Arriadne would arrive at the cells with a grand plan: Become bait for the assassin in place of the King. A battle she wished to be part of, even if the inclusion of her allies would skew the odds. Reluctantly agreeing, Samantha would first have to pick up her commissioned weapon from the forge. Apparently finished early due to the sudden surge in interest for broadswords, Sam was able to obtain her dagger on a pair of sticks.
With all preparations in order, the time to execute the plan was nigh. Luring out the assassin worked as intended, but taking them down proved to be difficult. A match for three fighters all by herself, the Queen of the Southern Wastes ultimately decided to leave the premises after a failed assassination.
The party was left with more questions than answers, and perhaps a little humbled by the lack of victory.
