Chapter 26: The Everglade
General Summary
A new day had begun on the ferry towards the Everglade's roots. Samantha decided to chat up a hunter who wasn't too talkative. The hunter implied that the Everglade has seen a fair share of disappearances of tourists that wander off the beaten path. Heading straight to Theranon would be the safest means of travel.
Pricia the Observant returned with the scouting report, appearing out of nowhere as she often does. Having ventured to the designated location, Pricia encountered a person who told her to returning on a rainy evening to find her prey. She had also learnt of the Wardens, constructs of wood that deal with invaders by using nature against them. A reclusive group said to be capable of combating these constructs is often commissioned by Theranon to acquire materials for construction, which is otherwise difficult to come by in the region.
The Everglade is one of two locales that seem to radiate aether strongly, the other being the Withering Isle.
Pricia, not fond of walking, would rather see a change of pace. She suggested that Lakmir likely already had a solution lined up, given everything she had done up to that point. In an attempt to commune with Lakmir, Sam had a vision of a world beyond her own, of Lakmir's home a long time ago. When she awoke, she found herself in the shape of a green cheetah.
The prospect of navigating the Everglade seemed much simpler now that human legs were no longer a factor. The forest's resilience seemed to be due to its composition, trees given shape by aether, rather than regular plant matter.
A Warden of the Glade appeared rather quickly to intercept the trespassers.
