Chapter 38: The Void of Reason

General Summary

Stranded on a rock in the middle of an ocean, Samantha was deprived of options to escape. Her tablet inoperable, no land in sight, the only option that remained would be to make use of incantations to get as far as she could. That is, until the showman appeared to sow more chaos to the world.
By order of the Guardian, the Pantheon was to be unleashed on the world to fix the Error. But the situation has changed over the past centuries and the Pantheon has done more harm than good, even in the limited time present on the world. Samantha would fight Avery tooth and nail to prevent another tragedy, but Avery is no simple sorcerer.
Summoning Hydalus the Breathless into being, Avery gets one step closer to achieving his goals, to obtain the ever elusive freedom. Samantha pondered on how to destroy this aquatic behemoth, but her power would be lacking to take it on. Instead, Avery proposed another test of her mettle, which as always results in fighting. Avery was able to deal severe damage to the beast during the fight, though he also seemed to gain the upper hand.
A close call with imminent death brought Kale to the scene to prevent Samantha's journey from ending so soon. Together they would be tested, and perhaps both of them would gain admittance to his 'Grand Finale'.
Dueling with her own powers, mimicked to near perfection by her adversary, Samantha would struggle to keep up with the barrage of attacks Avery would throw at her. Thanks to some teamwork, they were eventually able to put down Hydalus through sheer collateral damage.
Avery departed after running out of moves to steal. With Hydalus dead, the rising sea level would soon set to consume a great deal of land, including Samantha's home.
