Chapter 39: The Reversal

General Summary

Stranded and left helpless in the face of an unnatural disaster impending on the coastal states, Samantha and Kale languished on the remains of Hydalus' shell. Unable to effect any change with their current power, they eventually lost all sensible paths forward.
Acting on the gamble of good fortune, Kale would use his sword to draw in 'trouble', as he had done many times in the past when stuck on his journey. The trouble that would visit them would be none other than the remaining Heir, which followed Samantha's requests to the letter. It began by converting the excess water aether to that of heat, making the region mildly warmer than the typical oceanic chill.
With the shift in the tides, the shell would eventually reach the shore of Tathierre, providing the party a pitstop. Samantha beckoned the last Heir to her, and finally accepted her new position as Guardian. The Phoenix would be stationed around the island, tasked to keep the aetherial balance in check in the area.
Samantha spent the night in Tathierre, catching up with her family, restocking her supplies and saying her goodbyes. She set off on a ship, conveniently paid off by Jack to charter a specific course straight to the Great Wood. From there, it was only a short walk for Samantha to reach her destination.
Taking a seat to reflect upon her journey so far, she found herself slipping away from reality, to deal with something that was a long time coming.
