Chapter 40: The Soulforging

General Summary

Lakmir called Samantha into her realm to have a last heart to heart. Showering Samantha in sympathy for the troubles she faces in her mission and the burden placed upon her by a great many. Yet all the sympathy in the world seems to merely be a front to her offer, to surrender the reins to herself and allow her to continue to roam the world of the living and do things her way. Samantha refused, prompting Lakmir to issue a final trial.
Samantha had to contend with the creatures residing in the woods, their numbers growing more numerous and vicious as the night would dawn upon the area.
When the night had arrived, it would be Lakmir herself which Samantha had to face. Having taken the Heirs' powers for herself, she battled Samantha with their fury, to see if she might be worthy of wielding them herself.
After a long battle skewed heavily in Samantha's favor, Lakmir would surrender. A long life of serving the Empire as bioaetherologist has led her unable to carry on this mission herself. Having brought Medians and Minians into existence through her craft, she feels responsible for the Majians left behind on the stagnant world. Held responsible by them for dividing their people prior to the closing of the Gate, Lakmir was unable to perform her task before her untimely death.
Unwilling to let go of matters left unresolved, she sought out maidens of Eteras Major, to travel the world and see the state of it on their own. Hoping to reach the same conclusion as herself before sending them off on a quest to attain the seat of Guardian.
Lakmir was sent to the next world and left Samantha with a gift or two. An enhanced new outfit and a choker to remember her by.
With every obstacle now cleared, Samantha would be fully initiated as a Guardian. Her first order would be to issue the official evacuation order to all Heirs. Follow that, Samantha opened the Gate, prepared to do what she must on the other side.
