Chapter 8: Assassinating the Assailants

General Summary

Waking up to a fresh breakfast at the manor's buffet, Samantha ventured onto her assignment early in the morning. Meeting Lucia on the path towards the Hold, they joined forces to begin the investigation in earnest.
Though a single glance at the prisoners seemed to have Lucia convinced there was nothing else to learn from questioning them, she found better answers investigating their stripped belongings in the Hold's armory. Hooked pommels on their knives, and runes channeling aether into a fiery bolt were indicative of their origin, suspected to be the Frozen Wastes of the South. Finding traces of ore on their boots, Lucia determined the location of their hideout to be an old mine within the city.
Providing a single chance to surrender, the assailants declined the offer and attempted to kill Lucia. In a few short moments, their numbers dwindled from ten to one as the assailants were unable to keep up with Lucia's dance nor Samantha's rock sniping. Flash freezing their leader, Lucia determined that questioning her would also yield no further information, prompting her to slay the final member on the spot.
Upon return to the manor, the party debriefed Lady deFleur on their assignment and Lucia parted ways. With the immediate dangers gone, Arriadne could tend to other matters, including her journey to The Kingdom of Eglisain. Samantha requested to join this expedition and was accepted. Perhaps now she'll finally get use out of that tent.
Given the remainder of the day off to tend to leftover matters, Samantha may now wander the city of Parmante for perhaps the last time.
