The Coffin in the Ceiling

After continuing to investigate the strange tapping sound coming from his ceiling (and finding a small message-- "help me" -- in Darktongue above his bed), Oliver enlisted the help of the party in chiseling through the ceiling in hopes of finding the source of the sound. After some planning and some property destruction, it was revealed that the sound was coming from a coffin; a coffin covered in magical runes, and hidden in the ceiling between Oliver's dorm room and the roof of the Academy. The party managed to get the coffin out of the ceiling, but not before Fantasia and River each touched its surface and felt a terror unlike anything they had experienced before overtake them. This box was something terrible, and terrible things would befall them if they didn't leave it alone.   Oliver, Lucretia and Clarissa, however, all did not heed this warning and convinced the others to continue investigating. Together Oliver and Lucretia dispelled the enchantment on the coffin while Fantasia distracted a suspicious Freya (who had returned to the dorms early after a party River broke open the box to reveal a pale, naked form curled inside. It's skin was bleached white, its nail nearly six inches long, and its feet twisted and broken as if they had been smashed by something heavy. Its face lacked a nose, eyes, or hair, instead having a concave shape and two large, black horns. When the coffin opened, it stirred-- just as members of the staff, called by Freya, came to see what was going on.   After a few brief but intense moments, the ghastly creature disappeared completely from the room without a trace-- but not before reaching towards Lucretia, who was closer to it than anyone else as the chaos first ensued. Later, Professor Glory Ivarde would tell Oliver that the spell on the coffin had been a high-level Imprisonment spell that the students should not have been able to break so easily. Whatever that strange entity was, it was very powerful and had been locked away for a long, long time. What it was, or who created the coffin, nobody on staff at Nightcrest knows.   High-ranking members of the Adventurer's Guild have since visited and collaborated with professors to ensure that Nightcrest is safe and that the creature, whatever it was, is truly gone; where it lurks now, or what it wants, remains a mystery.
