Sanguine Sunrise #9: A Day in the City

General Summary

Kiwi returns to the party and explains to them that she found a grove where the people protect each other and what not. In this time, she met a man in the grove named Gennal who explained this all to her after she stayed in the Grove for the night. She also relayed that she knew the location of Peren's home.   The group then set about doing all manner of things. They went to the Armorer where Grimace retrieved his Greataxe, Rick. It worked fairly well with its new handles. When the party leaves the shop, they run into Guy Wylde who asks them about their mission, Luthrin lying to him and convincing him that Peras escaped. Wylde then tells the group that he can offer them help in retrieving an army to take him down. They just need to meet him in the sewers that night to discuss it.   The group then goes to the cow to see if Peren finally decided to end treatment. They learn that he did not. They decide to ignore this and hope things change soon. After this, they feel free to do whatever they want.   They head to the Grove and explore around. Whilst doing so, a beautiful woman with green skin that wears plants to cover her appears to Skek. She explains to him what the Emerald Enclave is and offers him entrance. He accepts and attempts to take her back to the rest of his group, but she distrusts them and decides not to. As Skek is speaking to them about her, Kiwi voices her distrust for them. However, this is interrupted by her appearing out of a nearby tree to plead with the group to destroy an abomination in the sewers that seems to be very badly maiming if not killing people. The party reluctantly agrees.   From there, the group goes to the waterfront to ask people about the thing in the sewers. However, this is revealed to be a dead end as the fisherman they spoke to seems to be under the impression that the sewers are always filled with deadly creatures, so it's nothing new. The group then enter the sewer and begin travelling. After a few minutes of doing so, Kiwi hears clicking and hissing from behind her. She yells to her group to be ready for it. However, when she turns around to look back at the sound, she sees six large canine-like insects that charge at her and knock her to the ground with their piercing arms. A fight ensues where these deadly creatures greatly injure the two front-line fighters before only three of the creatures remain. One of them grabs Kiwi and digs through the earth to escape, however, Grimace kills it before it can get far. Then, another one grabs Kiwi and digs further. Grimace also manages to kill that one whilst Luthrin fails to do so. Afterwards, Grimace manages to find the last insect that is running away and kills it with a dagger and javelin thrown at it from long range.   The group then rest in the sewer as they hear clicking from far away. They then leave the sewer, head to the Armorer, and climb into the sewer once again to save Guy Wylde and his crew from a group of the insects. Wylde tells them what he finally has to say. He tells them that his employer funds multiple of the illegal guilds in the city. He is willing to offer the aid of one of them and others if they complete a job for him. He then tells the group that the job is to lose a fight in the Lest arena to a veteran soldier. If so, he can tell them about a gambling den and spies. Finally, he asks for 100 gp to provide the services of the group that could offer such a thing as an army. He states that such a high price is obviously negotiable, but he explains that it also works as a down payment for the aid he will provide by offering jobs, allowing access to the other guilds later, and any further assistance he might provide them. Awestruck by his sound reasoning, Skek simply hands over the 100 gp. He thanks Skek for doing so, so he gives the name and district of the guild of the blade as well as the code to operate with them: "I need to hire some skilled fisherman to aid me in an outing." Guy Wylde then enters the carriage that somehow managed to get into the sewer, has one of the insects brought to him, hands potions to his escort to enlarge them, and it is carried off into the sewers.   Finally, the party comes up from the sewers and Skek has his name given to a Destguard who has to investigate if they really had a reason to be down there. In the meantime, the group goes to Peran's home after midnight, and break in. Inside, they find a singular table with a syringe on it, a chair they bashed to enter the home, and a small beaten up bed in the corner. They find that the window on the side of the house is open. They begin to plan where to go to stop Peran from receiving medical treatment. Whilst doing so, he enters the room, goes to his bed, and plops down shaking. The party tries to grab his attention, and he sits up in bed and just moves around a lot. Luthrin manages to get his attention, but he is soon distracted by a shoeprint on the ceiling of his home. Luthrin enthralls him which works well on allowing him to have a conversation, but his conversations run in circles and focused on one thing for much too long. Kiwi manages to sober him up a little via some usages of her magic, and he explains that he got his goods from Dion's Bounty, a ship, run by a group that calls themselves the Guild of the Hand. He then collapses into bed exhausted. As Luthrin contemplates taking Peren's spirit to have it write a note for the COW, the creature that has possessed his chains tells him that that is a bad idea. Immediately after this, Luthrin is struck by thousands of painful emotions. His anger exacerbated, his guilt returning, and his sadness immeasurable, Luthrin falls into a catatonic state staring at the figure that possessed his chains in front of him while only interpreting the word punishment throughout it. The group then just sleeps in Peran's room to solve the issue in the morning.   While sleeping, Grimace dreams of his resurrection by Peras. When he awakes, he finds Peren on the ground beside him, Pipe in hand, and Skek is trying to budge Peren awake. Peren remains unmoving except for a held smile and slight giggles from him. Meanwhile, Luthrin regains control of himself as his chains sear themselves deeper into his skin. Grimace screams to try to trick him to get up, and it doesnt work. After six minutes of failing to do anything, Destguard begin knocking on the door. Skek makes a break for it, and one of the guards chases after him. Meanwhile, Kiwi smuggles the rest of them out, leaving Peren, and whatever illicit substances are on him to be found by the Destguard, smiling on the floor.   While running, Skek almost manages to evade the Destguard. However, when he attempts to make the Destguard fall behind, it fails, allowing the Destguard to catch him. Once he does, Skek looks around for witnesses. Satisfied that there is none around him, he strikes out, killing the Destguard with a necrotic blast.   The group all find each other and figure things out. They go to the COW to confirm Rastra will be helped if Peren can't come. Once satisfied, they leave to figure out their second full day in the City of Heavy Hands.
