Therthymos, The Slaughterer

Therthymos is the god of bloodlust, battle, and random violence. He preys on warriors when they are most desperate and revels in conflicts that destroy both sides, even going so far as to manufacture and extend wars with the purpose of driving more and more people to the brink of collapse, for when order begins to break down, and people become desperate for any way to end a conflict, they are most vulnerable to the influence of Therthymos. Therthymos is known to appear as a savage, battle crazed warrior, dressed in battle-scarred, dark gray armor. Those who have been close enough to see under his helmet report the god as wearing an insane grin at all times.

Therthymos represents the worst aspects of warfare. He is the desperate, mindless bloodlust that brings out the worst in soldiers desperately fighting for their lives. He drives people to become focused on nothing, but the absolute destruction of their enemies. Therthymos loves nothing more than to devolve a conflict into mindless violence, but as he tends to divide his influence over many people at once, it takes a significant amount of time for him to build up his influence over a conflict. To deal with this Therthymos will spend time assisting both sides of a conflict, granting boosts of strength or moments of strategic brilliance to different soldiers on each side, keeping the conflict in a stalemate. During this time Therthymos will work to expand the hatred and anger the soldiers feel, and feeding them more and more of his power, until they begin to become reliant on it. As his influence grows Therthymos can more directly influence their actions, making otherwise honorable soldiers do things they would normally consider unthinkable. When he reaches full influence over a conflict, Therthymos will lead both armies into an all out battle against each other, often directly possessing the involved individuals and participating in the slaughter himself, jumping from body to body as he expends their life force, keeping the fight going until both sides have been left in complete ruin. As a result of Therthymos many nations have be be very strict about limiting the duration of conflicts, lest they risk letting Therthymos get a foothold.

Therthymos's worshippers serve him in several ways. There are those who work as manipulators, working to help fabricate conflict and set the stage for Therthymos to take control, and those who have given in to the rage and violence of Therthymos. There are those who embrace the bloodlust and spread his name through combat. Many warriors find his blessings addictive, and become dependent on the battle rage he gives to feel fully alive. These followers typically end up getting themselves killed in battle, or end up becoming renowned as legendary warriors, known for their skill and ferocity. Finally, there are those who learn to master the rage. These followers become the true champions of Therthymos, becoming his most loyal commanders, though they are exceedingly rare.
