Ottiskil Straits

The Ottiskil Straits separate the continents of Chadun and Fidere. They would be the most convenient way to get from one side of either continent to the other, but they are legendarily difficult to navigate, through a combination of rocks, storms, magical dangers, and piratical activity preying on the survivors of all the above.
Malfa was settled by the Maveren as a winter shelter; the hills on the eastern side of the peninsula protect the bay on the western side. A few centuries later of the Maveren's main contributions to Malfa is that they are the only seafarers capable of navigating the Straits. They do so only rarely, when an individual Maver feels like it; it's always an occasion, and competition is fierce to get goods onto the ship.
