The Shorefellow’s Benevolence

A mututal protection organisation for dockworkers/longshoremen. One big thing they do is negotiate with the Trade Benevolence for decent pay etc. They have a permanent headquarters at one end of the docks. The Shorefellows do things like support injured workers, help their members rebuild after destructive storms, and also make sure nobody makes a nuisance of themselves in ways that would make life harder for other dockworkers. For instance, one-off criminal activity might draw unwanted attention to the more regular criminal activity around smuggling, so that kind of thing tends to be caught and punished before it can be noticed by anyone in a uniform. Picking pockets by the docks is a bad idea, unless you’re connected.
