Grand Master of the Society of Magisters
The Grand Masters sat solemnly around a long, rounded table. On the table was a map of the island archipelago of Ironfoot, with little wooden markers signifying Society bases and units, and little red tokens showing Society targets. Grand Master Larch of the Federation moved one hand towards the two red tokens over the city of New Bensloh. A single motion, delicate and slight, and a token signalling a Society ship moved a little towards the harbor, while two teams of magisters moved from the west and east. It was put to a vote, a calm, quiet one. Six votes for yes, one vote for no. Three days later, two government investigators lay dead in the streets of New Bensloh.
Qualifications and Requirements
The qualification process for this rank is rigorous. For the normal rank, several steps are necessary. First, one must have been born a magister, and have been inducted into the Society of Magisters as a Companion. Then, you must have passed the Lieutenant Candidacy exam, and became a Candidate Lieutenant, then a Lieutenant. When your Knight or Grand Commander dies or is promoted, then you must have taken the Commander Candidacy exam, and scored top of your region in the ten-day examination. Once a Knight Commander, you must master Intent Transfer under your Grand Commander, and then, on their death or promotion, been promoted to Grand Commander. Finally, as a Grand Commander, you must wait for a position to be vacated at the Council of Grand Masters, either via retirement or death, and then pass the Grand Master's Examination, an insanely rigorous test proctored by the Grand Masters. For the Honorary Grand Master of the Society of Magisters rank, one needs to have found out about the Society of Magisters' true aims and joined as a Companion, and have done a deed of extraordinary valor or bravery to further the Society's aims (read: conceal magic). This rank is reserved for humans, and in general the award is given posthumously, although there are generally a couple Honorary Grand Masters that are living.
