A Pastry at Bakewell's
History
This 'tradition' is a right of passage amonst the folk of Saltmarsh, and every visitor is encouraged to take part. Though it's not an 'official' tradition, it is seen as radacal not to observe, because the pastries are just that good.
Execution
Simply, when someone arrives in the town of Saltmarsh, they are encouraged by all of the locals to try a pastry at Bakewell's. Usually through them asking the question 'have you been to Bakewell's yet?'.
Though this is well meaning in the sense that the pastries of Bakewell's are delicious and should be sampled by all people passing through, it has a dual purpose as everyone who knows the baker Rose Bakewell is aware of how disarming she can be. She has a knack for riddling out the history of even the most reserved of folk with her caring and compasionate demeanor, and for a town where newcomers are met with a skeptical eye, discovering someone's true history and intentions is considered very valuable.
Rose is also known as being the person in Saltmarsh who knows everyone's business, and as a result is seen as a big gossip. She knows how to pick her gossip though and will keep any serious secrets to herself. Her opinion of someone is seen as absolute however, which is where this 'tradtion' is of the highest importance for learning who is safe to allow into this tight-knit community.

Notable Participants
Eliander Fireborn - When Eliander first came to the town of Saltmarsh he was met with a lot of skepticism due to being a member of the local Guard, who have never truly been trusted memebers of the community there.
Stancliff Larsa - A very quiet individual who was met by suspicion and even hostility from some of the community when he first arrived, Rose made it a point to welcome him with open arms in the Bakery. He and his companion Lance spent increasingly more time there, with Stancliff and Rose becoming increasingly close. One day when he was there alone with Rose, he opened up about why he was in town; he was waiting for the arrival of his Grandson, Bastian Creek, but that no one else knew his true identity. The two became romantically involved, however Rose accidentally let slip to Lance the truth about who Bastian was to Stancliff, a revelation which enraged Lance.
Avris Lii Ethelwood D'Est Errall - On his arrival in the town, Cordelia Hollywhisk organised a meeting between Avris and Rose, which actually resulted in Avris taking the attic room of her home in exchange for help around the shop. Even now that he has his own home, Avris spends a lot of time at the bakery, often 'assisting' Rose in getting to know the newcomers. His tactics are a bit different though, as he tends to go for persistance in favour of easing people into the culture of Saltmarsh. This means that people often see him as incredibly obnoxious, but at least he's aware.
