Personal history

Ivelios d'Phiarlan was born into the infamous Phiarlan noble family in the world of Eberron. There he was trained as an assassin, the family proffession.
Ivelios was the victim of kidnapping by the Ilithids when they invaded Eberron, however was saved thanks to the heroic acts of Ismael Calabran when he managed to overpower one of the Ilithids and help many of the other captees escape their pods.
When the ship crashed in The Shattered World, Ivelios was one of the few to survive, and after seeing the leadership abilities of Calabran, swore himself to his service. In the end, 13 others did the same, and this group of beings from other worlds became The Fifteen.
Calabran said that he needed time to fix the ship in order to get them all back to their worlds, and in the meantime they would need money and supplies to fund their survival and excursions to find the required components. Ivelios followed him with unquestioning loyalty, becoming Calabran's right-hand man and, some would say, lapdog.
It didn't take long for the Fifteen to become tired of being turned away and denied aid when they attempted the diplomatic approach, thus their methods quickly became incidious. They began to trade in illegal goods, including slaves, and forcing people into their direct service through intimidation and Ivelios, having grown up in family who also traded in lives, became heavily involved.
His main post was at Calabran's side, and sometimes in his bed, when it was convinient to Ismael. Where Ivelios developed feelings, and even loved him, Calabran was only using Ivelios in absense of his wife, who everyone believed had died in the Ilithid attack. Their interactions were never romantic, and Calabran was always the reveiver and never reciprocated; he wasn't interested in men romantically and was still in love with his wife who, unbeknownst to the Fifteen, was still being kept alive as a Mindflayer by Calabran who was attempting to cure her before they returned.
When it was discovered what Calabran was doing, and that he had fixed the ship years before, Ivelios didn't bat an eye; he still stuck by him and only held resentment towards Calabran's love for his wife, voting for them to be separated when the decision of what to do was being made.

Meeting The Crimson Sisters

After The Crimson Sisters came abroad their vessel in order to negotiate for Anthony Greyhawk's safe return, Ivelios met Avris Ethelwood during their first meeting with Calabran. Though no words were exchange between the two during the conversation, they cross paths again in the communal shower room, where Ivelios appeared unimpressed with how loud and obnoxious he was. Flirtation quickly began between the two of them, with Ivelios cutting in front of him in the breakfast line and stating that Avris's place was 'behind him'. After that, Avris used a mage hand to tie his hair back, stating that he might find things easier with his hair out of his face, and it wasn't long before he gave him the nickname 'Ivy'.
During their conversations, Ivelios had revealed his fear of heights, which became an issue when he was chosen to accompany The Crimson Sisters, along with Calabran and Trien to Palour's island. There was a giant chasm that could only be crossed by a series of very old and dilapidated bridges. He nearly refused to cross outright, and Avris offered to carry him across which he still refused. When Cordelia suggested he climb into the Bag of Holding and she would carry him across he agreed, however almost feinted when he exited the bag at the bottom of the chasm, Cordelia having jumped off to save Trien who had fallen to his death.
When Calabran's wife was cured thanks to the boon given by Palour on the island and the decision was made that he and his wife would be returned home with none of the treasure that had been accumilated, Ivelios was heartbroken and Avris attempted to cheer him up by dancing with him on the deck of the ship. When Ivelios expressed regret in having followed Calabran's every whim, even when he had known he was keeping secrets and likened his duty towards Calabran to his family duty, Avris told him "Love can make you do the unimaginable" and encouraged him to live for himself and stay in the Shattered World when everyone else went home.
Upon the departure of The Fifteen, Ivelios stayed behind under Greater Invisibility. Avris expressed regret that Ivelios didn't even come to say goodbye, when Ivelios began to tug on his hair, revealing himself and mocking Avris's sentiment.
That night they slept together for the first time and from that point on their relationship continued. Despite Ivelios's objection to a more settled life, and making a point that he stayed because he wanted to learn about a new world, he began to develop romantic feelings for Avris, the two of them keeping in contact while Ivelios went to explore Eunalun via the communicators that Calabran had built. After Avris's death at the hands of Ursabett, Ivelios was unaware of what had happened and began to think that Avris had gotten bored of him. When Avris was revived and made it to the shore where he contacted Ivelios, Ivelios was bordering on angry that he'd worried for weeks about his whereabouts, but was relieved to the point of tears that he had come back and found him. The two happened to be very close by when Avris made it to land, and Ivelios ended up accompanying him to Greyhawk where Avris was going to try and learn what had happened to Cordelia and Annie.
Thinking he had lost him lead Ivelios to admit that he was in love with Avris to him in his native tongue, not realising that Avris had learned Elvish as part of his cover to join the navy. When he realised that Avris had understood him, he teleported away, leaving Avris to chase him throught he streets of Greyhawk until he found him away from anywhere that the two of them knew. They managed to find a tavern where they could talk and Avris expressed that he didn't realise that kind of attachment was on the table for him, but that if Ivelios wanted to he wanted to explore that possibility with him. That night marked the beginning of their more emotionally intimate relationship.

Sexuality

Homosexual

Employment

Prior to his work with The Fifteen, Ivelios was a professional assassin as part of the infamous Phiarlan house in Eberron. After his kidnapping and during his early days in the Shattered World, his main 'employment' was through piracy and slave trade, notably at the side of Ismael Calabran. At this point, they truly believed that the only way they would be able to see their homes again was by forgoing all morality and taking up highly immoral work.

Mental Trauma

Ivelios retains a lot of the issues that come from being raised in a high pressure family who had many expectations for him. That along with his dedication to Ismael Calabran lead to him not truly living for himself until the Fifteen departed from the Shattered World, where he stayed and fulfilled his desire to explore and learn from a new land.

Intellectual Characteristics

Ivelios is highly intelligent and holds knowledge above all else. There are few things he would do for knowledge; he made a deal with fey in order to solve the puzzle of the hags for the Crimson Sisters, though it could also be said that he did that to prove to himself that he could do what it took to learn the truth.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Ivelios needs to know and explore; he has a hunger for solving puzzles and he wants to make a name for himself through being the first to explore the new islands that have appeared in the Shattered World. It is this hunger which has prevented him from settling down.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Ivelios is very good at making the right kind of friends who will serve his needs. Most notably, he formed an unofficial 'club' with Keldeck and some of the Fey of Saltmarsh, all people who weren't afraid to go to extremes in order to gain knowledge. It was through the help of this 'club' that he was able to decode the book which was integral to The Crimson Sisters' defeat of Lilith and Bal'Tuk.

Wealth & Financial state

Thanks to his work with the Fifteen, he was granted a fair share of the vast treasure that they had accumilated over the years. With this money, he has easily funded his travel around Eunalun and beyond.

The Astral Sea

Ivelios was the one who initially recruited Avris and Cordelia to help with the Illithid crisis in the Astral Sea, going behind the back of Ismael Calabran and Gez'keht to do so, something which they did not appreciate.

Ivelios sustained severe injuries during a very close call with an Illithid
Sometime just after Avris and Cordelia arrived in the Astral Sea, Ivelios had a very near miss with and Illithid who had attempted to infect him. Though he manages to escape, he sustaines severe injuries, notably damaging his right eye.
