Devil's Den

Frontier: the meeting place of Civilization and the Unknown.       lots of monsters encroaching from grendlen (inc sages). and the underdark. and maybe the desert. There's a vampire-hunter here (orc, Von Brog) (maybe overzealous. checked/rivaled by the galvan sherrif 'Tiranis Tex').       meta: westerns dealt with the aftermath of the american civil war. western vibes here could deal with the   aftermath of the human-dwarf war (tensions between humans and dwarves - you had human expats returning home. maybe they'd resent dwarves coming in to their homes.   human bandits resent this town trading Iron to dwarves who killed their parents in the war. bandit gang may have been people who were let go as the mining here dried up?   meta: gardenia deals to anyone. slag point is very scalatoran (and no pirate deal). so what happens with devil's den? somewhere in the middle? maybe they refuse to be governed by the scalatorans, but maintain trade with them. scalatorans show up looking for a fugitive - devils den sherrif says 'if we find him we'll let you know. goodbye" and they don't want to leave. maybe Cloud City touchpoint. By offering a mined material that scalatorans need, they have enough leeway to insist on their independence. Officially, they do not sell their mined goods to pirates.   meta: a "he who fights monsters" thing. introduce graying lines on the "encroaching of monsters." sometimes its clearcut, but what about doppelgangers (skinwalker flavor?)? frankensteins. what about infected people like lycans (wendigo flavor?). maybe there are undead who somehow maintain their sanity. maybe it's not the same KIND of undead as the human empire.   hook: there's a human in town who has come back from the dead. they aren't mindless. but people are concerned about them being a secret agent.   Von Brog definitely wants to kill them. maybe von brog has become bloodthirsty - he has fought monsters and become one. maybe he's suspicous of skinwalker/doppelgangers/werewolves who have come into town in the past.   adventure, a cattledrive to sporca? they have to herd mountain-cows to sporca to trade?   name: kirk.   Vibe: individualism. Lotta unique folks here. the undead guy. a lycan. etc.

Feel

full-ass Wild West dried-up mining town with monsters coming in.

Happenings

missing deputy, trying to rescue a cattledrive to Sporca? (Tex sent his deputy out to check on the cattledrive and he hasn't returned. tex has to stay here, but he needs the party to go check on deputy)   NEED:

Civic Life

Life in Devil's den revolves around the Mining and Bovilo Industries. Bandits occasionally threaten the town (one band in particular. mostly human. resent the presence of dwarves. band has been growing after silver mine dried up). Also encroachment of monsters from the desert, mountains, and grendlan. And then weirder, grayer 'monsters' like lycans/sages/etc.   There is a recent attempt at developing a mountain rail-line to Nuremborc (and then Gardenia) which is probably the talk of the town.

Layout

Built into the eastern-side of a mountain (overlooking the Muhatan Desert), but still accessible to the north and south, Devil's Den is just a couple of roads with houses built along each side like a western mining town. Dusty due to the air coming over from the Muhatan.

Government

Is there a mayor? Who administrates and makes deals for The Mine? Diavolo Mining

Law Enforcement

Tiranis Tex (galvan, m) sherrif of the town. weilds a handcannon and a Galvan Induktor (from whom?! story there. but he's real mysterious about it) - he shows the pistol off, but when he's REAL serious, he pulls out the induktor.

Education

There is a school in town. quaint. tought by jane eyre because why not.

mail service

there should be a post office (and news printer). that feels thematic. They may read the mail that comes through and use that to print stories/news.

Power / Utilities

AACrystals are used in the elevators/minecarts of the mines. and since they're also mined here, there's probably a small store that sells/charges them. Kin operated, maybe.

Public Transportation

somone (human) (could be a secret adherant of Hestikan/mammon, and that could be interesting) is developing a rail line to Nuremborc (and then ostensibly Gardenia) to allow for better trade. as much as people have distaste for his wealth and obvious self-interest, with the direction the town's taking after the silver mine dried up, they *do* need the improved trade.

Culture

Art

big, sweeping landscape paintings

Music:

? I will not invent country music. Take a look at orcish music and elven music and see where they meet with human music.

Sport

(some sport from Nuremborc has probably made its way here. played by all bloodlines present. I'm thinking basically soccer. Kegby would result in too-direct outbursts of violence, I think). oh wait! nuremborc would export Wrestling! Need to think about this.

National heroes.

create a series of gunslingers like billy the kid and whomever.

Religion

conjunctivism. A human temple to all 10. Some painting of Kotal in the sheriffs office (maybe not actively used, but like leftover decoration from previous human sherrifs. Though Rex prefers Sigisma and wears his sigil, forged by _ Carava). a lot of followers of kiradin (hunt + Harvest) among the Bovilo ranchers.

Enterprise (businesses: Services/Goods)

Mining

Diavolo Mining operates the mine that serves the town. Mostly iron, but there are unpredictable deposits of AACrystal and Slagnesium - the combination of which makes for slow, careful mining. There was a silver mine above the town, but that vein dried up.
~abandoned silver mine
There's some creepy mammon stuff going on here: desperate people go in there trying to find silver, and get possessed.

Agriculture

Rearing Bovilo is as significant as the mining to the town's existence. The meat is sold to Scalatoran food companies, or herded for sale in Nuremborc. threatened by the bandits. could make some NPCs around this. a couple families that have their own herds.

Restaurants

need to create some kind of steakhouse.

Joints

Saloons! NEED to create a couple. Look for inspiration. On one hand, straight and narrow theme is interesting. but on another, there needs to be space for novelty in others. (is mos eisley cantina a saloon?)

Arms

(__ Carava) - a caravaggio bastard line. gunsmith. A dwarf who worships the human god of Craft and Beauty, Kiwana. Has a human SO probably.

Item Shops

General Store

black market goods

?

Notable NPCs

maybe a samurai human ronin, vibe of a gunslinger..
the mentioned vamp hunter (overeager maybe).
here the sages are people who don't want the sage life. just want to go home. denial.
that mysterious undead mentioned above.
