The Buried Temple
General Summary
During my quest for self-discovery and answers for what happened in the past on Tazaeros Thysaer, I’ve stumbled upon a small group of intriguing people. It all started days ago when I arrived to the city of Potavoli with my fellow brothers. The size of this city...the noise…buzzing with life. Nothing like at home on Malesia. I have yet to discover such peace. But still this place has caught my interest.
I parted ways with my monk brothers and started my search around the city for any cult activity. It wasn’t easy. I get the sense that this place is all about wealth and power through wealth. The balance here is way off scale and eventually I suspect the cup will overflow. I’m getting ahead of myself. One thing always seems to find common ground between people…wine. This usually quiet Castellano guard decided to lift a heavy burden of his heart after emptying a couple of wine bottles. Apparently, the Castellano guard had been guarding a warehouse every other night for a while. While doing so hooded cultists had been digging and removing soil, uncovering a tunnel to a temple under the city. He had not seen the temple, but he had heard words like Asmodeus and summoning from a passing, clearly exhausted hooded man. The guard looked conflicted. Suddenly realizing what he was confessing, the guard begged me not to mention it to anybody. He then got up and staggered towards home.
It turns out this Castellano house has quite a few warehouses in this city. Nonetheless, not many of them have late night suspicious activity going on. So last night I decided to stuff my backpack into a nearby bush and visit one of these suspicious warehouses. By the luck of the Slumbering Dragon, it turned out to be the place I was looking for. I managed to get into the warehouse through a small open window on the roof. From a dusty walkway I could see guards stand near a digging site, and hooded figures rolling a wheelbarrow filled with rocks and soil.
As I was wondering how to approach the situation one of the guards suddenly yelled out, “The door is open, intruders!”. An armored man with shield and mace jumped inside and guarded the entrance. Behind him I could see a fierce looking woman with the biggest maul I’ve ever seen. One of the guards try to attack the intruders but the armored man smashes into him knocking him prone. The fight starts and more people appear, a beautiful half elf with a crossbow and a deadly aim, and in the shadows a guard suddenly tumbles over as another half elf run him through only to almost but vanish again. I overcome my surprise and decide to join in, descending down upon another guard.
As the energies in the warehouse calmed down the villains lay slain on the ground. One guard remains alive for questioning. I introduce myself to the group and we decide to join forces since we’re all there for the same purpose it seems. The group consists of Calen Lightbringer, a cleric of the Raven Queen, Balbus “the shady” I call him, a male half elf with sneaky talents. Philine, a strong female warrior, slave of the house Malatesta. And Rafaela, a beautiful half elf bard.
Balbus disguises himself as a cultist and scouts ahead in the tunnels. He returned shortly after to inform us of his findings, when a woman’s voice called out for us. It was _____? Castellano beckoning us down to make a deal. She did not speak for long though. Rafaela made sure of that with her crossbow, wounding her in the shoulder. There was a fight which _____? Castellano lost in the end.
We manage to acquire another rope for me, and Balbus and I joined a digging site with a warden, more cultists and some strange fiends I later learned to be called Lemures. We pretended to be the cultists replacing the exhausted ones, and they soon wandered off. Eventually Rafaela gets a rope as well and not long after the rest of the group charge in and surprise the cultists.
At this point I would like to make it clear that the rope I was wearing was far too long and proved difficult to fight in! Nonetheless the group made sure that heads caved in, fiends became smelly puddles and I could finally get out of the ropes.
Balbus and Rafaela scouted further down the tunnels and found the Master of House Castellano, summoning fiends behind an altar dedicated to Asmodeus, king of demons. The filthy roots of Asmodeus reaches far it would seem. Yet again a brutal fight took place, it was a worthy challenge to test my wit and physique, but in the end we all triumphed…although a bloodied Master Castellano vanished through his summoned portal.
It was at the house of Malatesta that we finally got some rest. The master of the house praised us for putting an end to not only the cultists in the temple, but also for putting an end to House Castellano. We were rewarded in coin and Philine were resolved of slave hood and became a member of the family. She also received a maul that was engraved with House Malatesta and roses. How wonderful to bare witness to such a milestone on her journey. I hope it leads her towards a life of balance and peace. The resourceful Rafaela managed to acquire some bottles of wine, which we enjoyed in her room afterwards. She is deeply concerned about a lost magical pipe it seems. I would love if I could help her find it sometime.
Ah…it’s not elvish wine, but it is good *hic*. Time for my meditation.
The next day we said our goodbyes to Calen Lightbringer. He had been summoned to hos temple in the north. One day I wish to go there and discover those parts, but for now, I wonder what this day will bring...?
