There are a group of clan-less mandolorians on the planet Batuu who take an aggressive approach to raising their children - they separate them from their parents at birth, and subject them to a grueling childhood in the wilderness learning to survive and adapt to the harsh challenges they would face. During this time, they would have occasional interactions with elders of the clan-less clan, where they were taught the ways and beliefs of the mandolorians. This group believed this would make them stronger, more resilient, and less subject to emotional turmoil. This also strengthened the bond between those in the same cohort placed in the wilderness.   At 16, they were brought out from the wilderness and reintroduced to the clan. They were then assigned a partner to team up with on warring expeditions or missions. Some of these included being a gun-for-hire, where the profits were brought back and shared with the clan, for the good of the clan. One of the expeditions Koth went on with his partner, Banth Kondu, was actually a set up by a local cartel. They were tired of the almost flawless executions of their leaders by the mandolorians, so they hired a set under the guise of the area government to sequester the help of the mandolorian clan. They did that on a few different areas in a few different planets. The cartels teamed up with the galactic republic, who wanted to clean out this clan, and wiped out the clan while the duos were all out on assignment.
