The Way of the Baton

Oo-RA was a great warrior that lived his life in the protection of others. He died defending a small village from overwhelming forces. His only weapon that day was a baton.
Since his death, devotee's of Oo-RA have formed loose cults to honor/worship his memory. His followers believe that the only way to achieve peace in the afterlife is to follow Oo-Ra's lead by sacrificing your life in the protection of others. His followers carry a baton in his honor.
Thad Won was a Oo-Ra devotee and master of the baton. Thad took in Zed Steele after finding him begging on the street. Thad raised Zed and trained him in the arts of the baton.
Because of Thad's training and teachings, Zed joined the Star Watch as a security officer.
While Zed was on his first mission, he received word that his mentor, Thad had been killed. Thad was working to free a group of children from the Red Hound Corsair slavers when he was attacked. The leader of the slavers,Andor Kilraven; upon realizing that Thad was a Oo-RA worshiper, he had Thad beaten and crippled, but left alive.
