Moreau
Moreau, a small planet completely covered by man-made constructions built upon the skeletons of previous buildings layered up over many centuries, is a socially striated society. The wealthiest inhabitants, and the ruling class, live in a station connected to the end of the planet’s space elevator. Employees of Bio-Genomics, researchers, scientists, and the merely rich live in fortified complexes towering above the surrounding city-scape. Most of Moreau’s citizens live in the next few layers of the city-planets structures, living relatively normal, quiet lives. Below these layers is the Under-wastes, where the poor and desperate try to scrape out a life from the discarded trash, toxic waste, and forgotten secrets of the realms above. These Under-dwellers tend to group together in small gangs to improve their chances of staying alive in the harsh conditions of the under-wastes. Moreau’s favorite entertainment is a gladiator style survival competition that pits gangs of under-dwellers against each other in blood-sport contests. Winners gain fame and a better living conditions for as long as the win. The best teams can find themselves capable of retiring from competition to be employed as bodyguards in one of the planets fortified complexes. Some of the best competitors have even found their way off planet.
