Session 18 - Silver Soot and Buried Bones

General Summary

Time has advanced to the 11th of Sarenith. The Greenbelt bathes in the intense love of the Dawnflower.   Returning back to Clemency, the heroes are greeted with a smile from Linzi who reveals to them her plan to prevent new intrusions into the council: A bulletin board! Any matters that the civilans deem important would be placed upon it. However what constitutes "important" varies wildly amongst the citizens.   Settling in to continue their govermental duties, The Council of Ista sees the ugly problem of inadequate housing rear its ugly head causing unrest amongst the citizens. Economically, the council manages some excess sundries and manages to swing a deal with Varnhold and will see the benefits of that come the next month. Taxes continue to not be collected, but with Ista's lack of economical focus it may prove to be difficult in the future.   With economic matters out of the way, the leaders pursued some individual activities. Faenulos Canathrimel attempted to help quell unrest through a different avenue than what was done last month but unfortunately was not able to do so, the lack of housing reaching a boiling point amongst the citizens. Beatrice LaRue considered a trade agreement with Brevoy but the plan was dropped in consideration of future endeavors when the initial offer required the greasing of palms. Strongarm sent a letter titled to Maegar Varn flatly asking for financial assistance and was met with a rather eloquently worded letter that, when interpreted by the more blue-blooded, was a condescending remark but promised assistance. However the most eventful activity that happens was the succesful integration of the Sootscale Kobolds into the The Free Republic of Ista by Zolahma Yew. Honoring his promise, Chief Sootscale personally splapped his little paw on the official document recognizing the Sootscale Caverns as Istan soil and the Devil-Worshiping Kobolds as proper Istans. Much to the dismay of the other folk. While they may be worshiping a literal devil, Mikmek, Nakpik, and a couple of Sootscales come with good intentions to settle within the village "to see what the fuss-mess is about" and their integration goes spectacularly, doubly so when the citizens realize they now have a source of silver ore to begin working with.   Moving on to Regional activities, the first activity was to claim the shallow crossing territory to connect to the Sootscales but unfortunately the magical methods used to pursue this endevor did not pan out successfully, leaving the territory isolated for the time being. Harvesting Fish did not also prove successful but this was fine as the current food stores are adequate enough. What did go right was the construction of a Lumbermill on the western forest. However, this success was short lived as right before the work began to commence a letter from the workers states that the foreman and a number of lumberjacks have gone missing deeper into the forest. With the majority of the workforce gone the camp would not be able to produce any raw materials.   The final activity for the council was to address the housing issue by funding the development of a plot towards hearth and home. To the south west of the town hall, residences are being constructed but most notably of all was a permit for an Inn to be built was requested and approved. The details of this Inn are a bit of a mystery at this time, but the permit was made for The Whispering Leaf and with construction being on schedule it is just a matter of time until the secret is revealed.   With their duties out of the way, the Heroes charter a couple of fishing boats to take them across the lake, not daring to risk the ire of the Howl of the North, and from there they planned explore a couple of places that were previously marked by Jubilost Narthopple. The first place explored was the Gudrin crossing, a rather shallow section of the river allowing easy access south should they need it. Also spotted there was a troll idly minding its own business. Deciding to give the ferocious creature a large berth, they departed. Moving back towards the Shrike river, the heroes follow the mysterious map from the hermit and arrive at a location hidden in plain sight: ancient burial grounds.   What awaits our heroes in this burrow that has been hidden for all this time?
