Ebony Order
The Ebony Order is the elite fighting force of Alderon and beholden only to the royal family. They are selected from the best soldiers of the empire they are scouted early in their careers for their courage, strength, aptitude, and leadership skills. Their physical and mental limits are tested and pushed to their limits during brutal training that lasts 5 years. Most do not make it through those five years and succumb to the brutal training and requirements and have to quit. Injury is less common and death even more so but also contributes to why most don't make it.
Each soldier is given his own armor as the last rites of their 5-year struggle. The Ebony Armor is a gleaming black heavy armor that doesn't seem to limit their speed or flexibility. Soldiers of the order are members for life and none outside of them or the royal family know the secrets of the armor. After their armor is complete they become full members responsible for protecting the royal family and the inner city. During times of war, they serve as officers to help generals with planning and strategy.
