Session 05 : A Stranger from another world. Part 1 Report
General Summary
On the final stretch of road into Nevapoint the party where discussion there last months without Luthar The Just at there side as he went on a Holy Pilgrimage to The Holy City Xianoxa. It was along this road they came across the strangest of tents they had ever seen, A small tent that appears to have been made out of bagpipes. Thazarr called out towards the tent. Any one of the pipes raised up and spun around like a periscope. Thazarr called out again and out popped the head of a Forest Gnome. The Gnome introduced itself as Folxi Gemhair The Traveling Bard. The party decide to invite Folxi Along to join them into town and boy did they regret that decision very shortly after they set off. For the hour-long walk to the village, Folxi proceeded to play what was probably the worst music you could imaging combining Lute and Drums with a Hint of Pan Pipes for good measure. Thazarr was the exception and found the music mixed well with the movement of his feet. How turned round abruptly and handed the gold coin to Folxi in exchange for not playing for the rest of the walk. Folxi obliged and as they started walking again she began to talk about the last person who came through a couple of days ago, A robed man missing three fingers on his left hand and from what she could see his right eye as well. His left hand was placed upon a large leather book strapped to his wais that had purple ribbon book marks and a very large padlock keeping it closed. He paid her 5 gold pieces to stop following him into town and held out the coins in a scarred and boney hand. Upon hearing the mention of the book Howl spun round and become interested in what the Gnome was saying and Thazarrr was very interested in the book and the robed man. After getting Folxi to describe the book again Thazarr knew for sure that had to be the book he was looking for and decided it was time to explain just a small amount of what he knew about the book of shadows to the party.
The party's mood shifted slightly when Thazarr began to talk about the book he is searching for and as he went on the party began to grow more distant from there companion as if he had become more of a stranger in the time they had been talking. And when he was finished Thazarr could tell before they spoke they did not want to find this book. And the party voiced this option openly that maybe Thazarr shouldn't find this book of shadows after all.
They carried on down the road and eventually arrived at Nevapoint. The party walked through the village and found the local Tavern Inn The Laughing Pearl and entered. Dimitri Duebottom greeted them warmly, the party asked about the robed man but Dimitri did not know of such a man coming through town. They asked about the book as well and he suggested they speak with Theon Treemaw as he interested in books and wants to build a library in the village. Thazarr De'jassan Leaned in close and asked Dimitri to keep and our and an ear out for this robed man or any information on the book and placed some coin in Dimitri's top pocket. The party took up lodgings in the Tavern and headed upstairs to unpack and clean up before eating. Returning downstairs Dimitri brought out a mix of cheeses, bread, ale, and wine to the tables the group had pushed together. While eating their meal the group discussed what they were going to do. Thazarr and Harstork would find out where they can find the Village leader, Howl will head off to the general store and Rollen waited in the tavern to speak with Dimitri, Folxi had wandered off to the toilet at this point and returned to find just Rollen sitting at the table and joined him.
Howl wandered over to the general store and was rudely welcomes by Leon Lowbrow who was cold and unhelpful to Howl as he was a stranger and not a local. They exchanged few words and before anyone knew who said what Howl launched magical flames at the general store door and Leon pulled out a large crossbow and aimed at him. A crowd had started to gather and surround the commotion. Howl looking around him and seeing the crow number of people he placed one hand on his new dagger and before their eyes, he vanished.
Thazarr and Harstork asked nearby locals where they might find the village leader. They direct them to the village hall and they set off down the road. Before long they arrived at the largely wooden structure of the town hall and entered through the open door and past the empty notice board. Entering the large room they round three men standing around the large wooden table covered in books and parchments piled high. The younger of three men must have been Theon Treemaw the half-elf Dimitri mentioned. The other two men were much older, Thazarr cleared his throat and tapped his staff upon the door as they entered. The men turned around and greeted them and asked how they may help. The taller of the older gentlemen introduced them all, He was Richard Whiteheart , the younger gentleman was indeed Theon Treemaw and the other much older man was Normand Chuckles. They asked about the Robed man and the book he was carrying. Theon mentioned he did see a robed man a couple of days ago pass through the village and head for the Cliff edge but does not remember seeing him come back. They asked if anyone lived that far out of the village and Richard said other than Normand here few live that far out. Normand mentioned that he enjoys it apart from nature reclaiming his garden every few years. Harstork was shocked to find in all of these village records there were none that contained stories of his great heroic deeds. As they were about to leave Howl suddenly appear next to Thazarr and started to complain about the general store owner. Then men were taken back at this sudden appearance but quickly Richard composed himself has Normand try to breathe. Richard acknowledged this fact and mentioned that since Leon and Himself got attacked a few years ago when some strangers came into town and caused trouble he has had a chip on his shoulder and his business has been suffering because of this.Thazarr asked before they left if there were any magical tuned people in town, Richard chuckled slightly and said not really there is a local that some of the villagers say she is an Oracle but she is nothing more than a crazy old lady to Richard her name was Lady Zibbs . Thanking the men the three party members headed back to the Tavern.
Rollen got up from his chair almost as quickly as Folxi sat down at hers and he headed over to the bar to ask Dimitri about the current patrons. Dimitri filled him in on that the three men sitting together were local farmers, the old well-dressed man was Henry Farthing an ageing retired knight who was going blind, and the young lady at the back was Tilda Taggon the local school teacher for the small school in the village and that she is well-liked and loved by all the locals. But no one suspicious in the village was known to Dimitri at this time. Rollen thanked him and headed back to his seat.
The party soon regrouped at the tavern and shared what they had learned and discussed their next moves. Thazarr and Folxi would go to see Lady Zibb and Howl, Rollen and Harstork will go and see if there is anything near the cliff's edge. Thazarr asked Dimirtri if he knew where they could find Lady Zibbs house and he told them to head left out the tavern door and down the alleyway and follow it to the end. And then there is a crooked and twisted house and next to that house on the left is a very normal looking house, That house was Lady Zibbs.
Rollen, Harstork, and Howl had set off to the edge of the cliff as they get to the outer edges they passed by Normand Chuckles house and could see just how much of his garden was missing reclaimed by the sea. Howl cast detect magic and could sense lingering sense of bitter and dark magic. Nothing like he had felt before. He wandered closer to the edge found the magic just stopped at the cliff's edge. They looked over and could see a cave towards the bottom of the cliff and a lower opening in the cliff with a set of stairs leading down. They carefully made their way down to an opening in the cliff where the sea flowed in. From here they could better see the cave and it was fully flooded with the crashing rough sea as a storm began to approach the land. They searched the area and other than a few broken bits of fishing net and fishes cages that had washed up on the shore nothing else stood out to them. They decided they would head back to the tavern but discussed camping in the area in case the reason the dark magic stopped at the cliff edge was due to some portal opening or something like that.
Thazarr and Folxi followed the directions from Dimitri and on the way, Folxi mentioned she met Lady Zibb earlier that day heading back to the village and hid Folxi with her bag to stop her playing music. As they approached the normal-looking house they spotted several chimes on the front porch and a few stick bundles tide together to form figures. Thazarr knocked on the door and voiced from behind the door asked who it was. Thazarr asked if this was Lady Zibb and that they wished to speak with the Oracle. She opened and the door and out swung a bag towards Folxi. Lady Zibb said they can come in so long as the Gnome does not play any music. They agreed and followed Layd Zibb into her home. Everywhere they looked there were candles and the strong smell of incense. They followed Zibb into a small room filled with candles and a small round wooden table in the centre of the room with a jagged crystal ball on the table. Zibb sat down at one of the chairs and pulled back her hood revealing a thick mass of dreadlocks going grey with age and a wrinkled face with several piercings. She gestured for them to sit down at the table, Thazarr took a seat and Folxi pushed her drum onto the chair and sat upon it to raise her to the height of the others. Thazarr asked about the Robed man and his book. Zibb began to look deep into the crystal and moved her hands around it as her eyes turned white. She then slowed her movements and began to speak, she said the robed figure had travelled far and further still between worlds. But his dark aura made it hard to see his face. And that Thazarr will have to travel far if to seek this book and the cosmos said he should sleep on it and that the answer will come to him at night. Thazarr thanks her and pays her some gold and the two of them leave Lady Zibbs house and head back to the Tavern.
Have all arrived back at the Tavern as the storm rolled in training down heavy with hail and high winds, with thunder and lightning crashing on all sides. They shared what they had learned and decided to rest for the night. As they headed upstairs Howl cast his Alarm spell upon the stairs making sure to exclude his companies from it. They settled down and drifted off to sleep.
The party were quickly awake by the shouts and screams of villagers outside. Its early morning as they opened their windows and sore a large crowd of villagers running towards the cliff edge. They quickly got dressed and grabbed their equipment and ran after the crowd. As they arrived they could hear the murmurs amongst the crowd and as they go to the edge they could clearly see what they were talking about. Five children's bodies had washed up onto the shore and from the crowd, they knew they were villagers. All had drowned and where being pulled from the water by a few villagers who had climbed down to get them. The crowd soon shifted to shouting rumours and guesses of who did this and after one shouted Sea Hag so did another before long the crowd was mentioned seeing a Sea Hag before and how they like to drown children. But after a few moments, the crowd died down its talk of sea hags and soon Thazarr and the rest of the party could see that eyes from the crowd began to stare at Thazarr.
