Inheritor Gods
The Inheritor Gods are the eight gods that currently influence the Story, named for the fact that they inherited the world from the Storyteller God. They are capable of bestowing divine favor upon their faithful, ranging from blessings of toughness to the ability to perform minor miracles. The Inheritor Gods also generally stabilize the Story through their temples and shrines, allowing mortals to live without fear of Variations occuring in towns, cities and major roads.
Aside from their basic abilities, each god has vastly different methods of interacting with the mortal world. Some gods use their influence to maintain theocratic states, such as the Steel Nation whose state religion is that of Djang, God of the Forge. Voro, God of the Road, on the other hand, does not have any fixed temples, instead prefering their worshippers to maintain small shrines along roads and mountain paths.
Gods and the World
Unlike the Storyteller God, who presumably had infinite ability to interact with the world as she created it, the Inheritor Gods seem to be strictly limited. Gods can stabilize the Story, and they can bestow divine favor upon their faithful, but they cannot punish their enemies. Therefore gods must rely on their followers to enact real change in the world. Many religions have stories of their gods walking the Story and dispensing their respective forms of justice. None of these stories have corroborating evidence. Pointing this fact out is not, however, conducive to long life and happiness. The Steel Nation in particular has harsh punishments for perceived heresy.List of Inheritor Gods
