The Voiceless Wastes

Bordering the Akregian Empire to the south, the vast desert known as the Voiceless Wastes was, according to legend, not always such a barren location. Ancient texts refer to a region called the "Singing Lands" that sat between the ancient Akh-Regan kingdoms and the Sestonian states. Most historians theorize that if this land was indeed where the Wastes are now, then such a transformation was likely the result of some cataclysmic event during the Purge.

Geography

The Wastes consist of a seemingly endless expanse of rolling sand dunes with only the distant outline of the Red Mountains to the east. Though caravans do occasionally report stumbling upon a verdant oasis hidden between the dunes, these stories are rare enough that even the most seasoned traveler will hesitate to venture into the Wastes without a plentiful supply of water and rations.

Fauna & Flora

Beasts and birds are scarce in the Wastes, though rumors persist of scorpions and other insects the size of mules, dunes travel around like giant snakes, and even stranger creatures. Most scholars regard these stories as mere exaggerations of perfectly normal phenomena, those who travel the desert are not so quick to dismiss them as impossible.

Natural Resources

Though the entirety of the Wastes seems to be one vast and empty desert, there is a fortune to be made for those brave souls who know what to look for. Hidden between the dunes and under the sands are the remnants of ancient settlements belonging to the long-dead Syph civilization. Most scholars place these cities at least as old as the Akregian Empire, and many seem to predate even the Purge itself. These ruins are rumored to hide treasures of incredible value to the right buyer, though obtaining them is even deadlier than the desert itself, for the ruins are filled by traps and wards that protect the most valuable of relics.
