Disco Ball

Disco Balls, also known as Little Companions or Discus Balls, are spherical objects covered in small mirrors that reflect light in all directions. It's usually mounted above peoples' heads, so as to be the target of a spotlight, and continually spin to produce complex light displays.   They are intrinsincally tied to the uniquelly Elturian genre of disco music and its creator, Discus Dancebright.

History

Disco balls emerged in the 1470s as "little companions," representations of the Companion for people to worship or honor in their own homes. Their ability to spin was the creation of the gnome Discus Dancebright, whose named became permenately linked with his creation as first Discus balls and then disco balls.   Discus used his new invention to also push the new style of music he'd been developing: disco. Soon, disco balls were placed in disco halls around Elturel for people to dance and honor the Companion to their heart's content.   Though disco balls still existed throughout the 1480s and 1490s, they lost a great deal of popularity and became associated heavily with the generation that popularized the craze. After the end of the Damnation of Elturel in 1498, nearly all remaining disco balls were destroyed or ignored as part of the city's rejection of everything to do with the Companion after its infernal origins were revealed.
