Gideon Mistmoor
Gideon Mistmoor
Gideon Mistmoor was a male human wizard and former apprentice to the wizard Keledek, who was most notable for his attack on the town of Saltmarsh during Monster's Eve in 1496.
History
Born into the Mistmoor family, a family of down on their luck nobles in Cormyr, Gideon began study as a wizard in his teens, eventually becoming the apprentice of the wizard of Saltmarsh Keledek in the 1480s. However, Keledek was a cruel and abusive teacher, eventually kicking out Gideon, declaring him a failure. Angered, Gideon returned home, studying magic on his own with the intent of destroying his former master. During this time, the last of the Mistmoors, save for Gideon died. In 1496, Gideon had gained the tools for his revenge: a wand of True Polymorph. Bottling up his family home, the Mistmoor Mansion, Gideon made his way to Saltmarsh, striking on the local holiday of Monster's Eve on the 21st of Marpenoth. Gideon first transformed Keledek into a sheep and then unbottled his family estate, laying it on top of the Haunted Mansion of Saltmarsh, destroying all of the original building save for its basement. Gideon then empowered the wand in a storm, turning nearly all of the Marshers in costume into the monsters they were disguised as to give himself new minions to rule over Saltmarsh with. However, the empowering of the wand slightly fried it, and Gideon needed to maintain concentration on the spell for an entire night instead of just one hour. That gave the Heroes of Saltmarsh enough time to fight through the haunted Mistmoor Mansion and confront Gideon, stealing the wand from him and turning him into a rat. His concentration broken, the people of Saltmarsh transformed back into their normal selves and the Heroes used the nearly broken wand to shapechange Keledek back to a human, who promptly killed the weakened Gideon.
