Kaiden Miursa

Kaiden Miursa

Kaiden Miursa is a Hellrider of Elturel, the oldest son of High Rider Alcor Miursa, and the older brother of Arcus Miursa, one of the Lost Star Detectives that ended the Damnation of Elturel.

History

Kaiden was born in the village of Triel in Elturgard in 1469 to Callista and Alcor Miursa, the latter a lifelong Hellrider. Kaiden spent his early life living in Triel alongside his little brother Arcus, who was born in 1472.   In 1478, Arcus fell victim to a curse by the hag Zilly Redwood, who "took Arcus's voice," rendering him mute. Alcor and Callista tried everything to dispell the curse, even taking Arcus to Elturel to try and take advantage of the city's increased resources, but nothing worked. However, knowing that Elturel had a small mute community and believing that a change of scenary would do Arcus good, the Miursas relocated to Elturel permenately.   The relocation to Elturel, Alcor's home city, also proved to be a good career more for the family's patriarch, and Kaiden, who dreamed of being a Hellrider as well, also benefitted. While Arcus grew closer with their mother, bonding over a shared love of gardening, Kaiden began spending more time with Alcor, being personally tutored in swordfighting. Kaiden quickly took to it and was recognized by Alcor and other Hellriders as a prodigy in the making. Though Alcor attempted to train Arcus as well, the younger child didn't take to swordfighting as well, and Alcor redirected most of his attention to Kaiden.   In 1487, at the age of 18, Kaiden joined the Hellriders to much fanfare, quickly proving the faith placed in him by his father well-warranted.   In 1491, Callista magically disappeared, stolen away by Zilly Redwood, as Callista's guidance was helping Arcus regain his metaphorical voice. Callista's disappearance, and presumed death, had a profound affect on the Miursa family. Alcor began blaming Arcus for her disappearance and his doting on Kaiden became near obsessive, driving wedges in his relationship between both of his sons. However, this fracturing also drove the two brothers to a more shared understanding of one another, though their differing life paths could still be a source of tension.   By 1495, Alcor began to acknowledge his mistakes in how he had been treating his sons, and Arcus gained a fascimile of a voice through a blessing from the goddess Eldath, and the Miursa family began to return to some notion of normality. Kaiden had also continue to rise through the ranks of the Hellriders, though his sometimes arrogant and self-assured personality did sometimes rub others the wrong way, such as the Hellrider Ruby Hynes and her friend Kinsey Eridanus.   Kaiden and Alcor were among the Hellriders stationed in Elturel on the 2nd of Eleasis, 1497, when the city and all of its inhabitants were teleported into Avernus as a result of a pact between Archduke of Avernus Zariel and High Observer Naja Bellandi of Elturel, signed fifty years previous. Elturel's planar relocation was coincided with the reveal that nearly all of the upper leadership of Elturgard's government, the Hellriders, and the Order of the Companion were members of the cult of Zariel who transformed into devils upon the city's arrival in hell. To make matters worse, Hellriders, Order of the Companion members, and their families who were killed were transformed in death into devils as well, which was unknowingly a result of the Creed Resolute they all were made to swear.   As one of the few high-ranking Hellriders that was not a Zarielite, Alcor led a minor resistance against the Hell Knights and devils in the streets from Helm's Shieldhall, but realized that Elturel needed drastic action to be saved. Alcor volunteered to a lead a group of Hellriders onto Avernus itself to search for a solution, and left Kaiden in charge of the Hellriders inside the Shieldhall, alongside Onthar Frume of the Order of the Gauntlet. The two of them protected the civilians they were able to use the Shieldhall to protect Elturian civilians and kept a tenuous connection with the resistance led by Ulder Ravengard in the High Hall, but were soon cut off when the devils beseiged the Shieldhall. Onthar Frume was killed, but the siege was broken by the Lost Star Detectives, including Kaiden's brother Arcus, who was presumed dead. Kaiden was relieved to see Arcus, but the two got into a public argument when Arcus asked Kaiden to join them on their quest, as Kaiden was under severe stress, did not take being given orders well, and worried that Arcus was going to go on a suicide mission like their dad.   While the Lost Star Detectives left the city to find a way to free it, Kaiden and the surviving Hellriders reunited with the bolstered resistance group at High Hall and began stabilizing the situation in the city with an uneasy alliance with the resistance faction led by the vampire Klav Ikaia.   During the 1498 Battle of Elturel, Kaiden once again led the defenses of Helm's Shieldhall against an onslaught of demons. Though the fighting was brutal, Kaiden and the Hellriders managed to hold out for long enough to allow the Lost Star Detectives to use the Companion and return Elturel to the Material Plane.   Following Elturel's return, Alcor Miursa became the new High Rider of Elturel, and Kaiden found himself promoted beyond his age in the Hellriders to make up for the lack of surviving leadership. Though still an extremely talented warrior and leader, Kaiden began struggling with the perception that his position was only obtained due to his father's influence, and he made sure to distance himself from anything political to try and curb that notion.
