Lessni Deephatcher

Lessni Deephatcher is a dwarven woman who is the current on-site leader of the Mountain Gem Mining Company in Saltmarsh, as well as a member of the Saltmarsh Town Council.

History

Lessni was born in 1348 as a surface dwarf, unconnected to any established clan. She spent most of her life doing odd jobs, mostly clerical work, until she joined Mountain Gem Construction in 1473. Though she never involved herself in the construction itself, Lessni's clerical work was second-to-none, and she found herself being promoted quickly, becoming one of Manistrad Copperlocks's second-in-commands, alongside Mogran Oredelver.
In 1494, the company, renamed now to the Mountain Gem Mining Company, was given a charter from Lord Protector Dagult Neverember to operate the Saltmarsh Mine, north of the eponymous town. Lessni was put in charge of on-site operations, living outside the mine full-time.
In Eleasis of 1496, the mine's operation was temporarily halted when the lowest levels of it were overrun by firenewts driven from their home after one of their own opened a dormant portal into the Elemental Plane of Fire. The resulting shutdown nearly gave the anxious Lessni a heart attack, but the Heroes of Saltmarsh arrived shortly to negotiate the mine's reopening.
In 1497, following the Attack on the Neveren Trade Fleet and the end of the Banesmark Crisis, Manistrad Copperlocks resigned from her position on the Saltmarsh Town Council to move back to Neverwinter. Following this, Lessni was appointed to fill Manistrad's position on the council.

While Lessni was noted for extreme efficiency, she was anxious by nature. In contrast to her former coworker, Mogran Oredelver, Lessni had difficulty adapting to unforeseen events and grew uncomfortable when things didn't go according to plan.
