The Chaos

The Chaos (1451-1469) was a period of great instability in Neverwinter that began when Mt. Hotenow erupted, destroying much of the city and killing the entire Alagondar family, the ruling nobility of Neverwinter for centuries. During this time period, organized government broke down, and individuals neighborhoods began fending for themselves. The city's northern districts were also overrun by orcs from the Kingdom of Many-Arrows, furthering the internal conflict.
In 1469, Dagult Neverember, the Open Lord of Waterdeep Midsummer Fair, announced that he was a bastard son of the Alagondars and Neverwinter was rightfully his. Starting that year, Neverember began the New Neverwinter movement, militarily and politically reuniting the city and pouring funds into its reconstruction.
