Mount Waterdeep

700ft may seem small for a mountain, but titles are given for history, and for grandeur, and Mount Waterdeep stands proudly as one of the most prominent natural landmarks along the Sword Coast, and as many Waterdhavians will tell you, "It's roots grow deep".
In fact, the whole City of Splendours sits upon the mountain, and it is simply the crest that is referred to as "Mount Waterdeep" proper, rising as it does above the city, looking out over the Sea of Swords, shielding Waterdeep from coastal storms.
Castle Waterdeep and Palace of Waterdeep are built along it's Northern and Eastern slopes respectively. At it's summit sits The Aerie, home of Waterdeep's Griffon Cavalry, with the nearby Griffon Statue standing splendidly alongside.
Many visitors and residents enjoy the hike, offering magnificent views of the surrounding lands as well as the city itself. It takes most of the day to make the climb, taking the winding well trodden path, but for those willing to scramble and risk the danger of a more vertical ascent, there are other routes requiring skill with ropes and strong grips. The Aerie is as far as the public footpath allows, further along the crest of the Mount are other areas, long worn paths, old watchtowers and the like. Some guilds of the city come here on official business, though the dangers are magnified, somehow many creatures find there way here.
